Only 8% of schools across the UK achieve OUTSTANDING SCHOOL STATUS, with only 3 other primary schools in Stoke on Trent have achieved this level since the new framework was introduced in 2009.

Congratulations to all of the teachers, staff at the school for all of your hard work.

Goldenhill Primary School

Goldenhill Primary School Sentinel Report - from today's 11th Dec

PUPILS and staff are celebrating after their school was given top marks by Government inspectors.

Goldenhill Primary School has been rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted for its sustained improvement.

The highest Ofsted commendation comes after the school was rated 'good' in 2004 and 2007.

Inspectors praised the Broadfield Road school's "outstanding capacity for sustained improvements."

Headteacher Neil Wade, who has been at the school for eight years, is crediting the improvement on the broad range of extracurricular and creative activities.

He said: "The 'outstanding' rating is a fantastic achievement for everyone associated with the school and in particular its progress over recent years.

"Children, parents and staff are delighted with their success and the whole community should be proud.

"Our school is a very happy place. Children enjoy coming to school and always arrive with a smile.

"We are aware that not everyone will be the next best mathematician so we also have activities in sport, drama and art."

The school regularly welcomes coaches from Port Vale Football Club and has links with Sandyford Cricket Club.

It led to nine pupils playing for Sandyford under-nines last season.

Inspectors also heaped praise on the school's early years provision, noting: "The children receive excellent teaching. There are exciting activities for children to enjoy indoors and in the outdoor areas."

Early years teacher Debbie Symms, who has been teaching at the school for three years, said: "I am really pleased with the report.

"The outdoor areas are always offered to the children as it really helps with their social skills, which is very important at a young age.

"We have also been working a lot on languages too and we always get a good reaction from the children."

The report highlights the "excellent" relationships formed at school and the efforts children put into schemes like the school council and play leader initiative.

Assistant headteacher Sarah Howson, who has taught at the school for more than 20 years, said: "We are delighted with the report. It's been a lot of hard work from the staff. They put in extra hours when they need to.

"The new creative curriculum has allowed more flexibility. The children love it and it gives them the chance to be creative."

A big "WELL DONE" to all the

A big "WELL DONE" to all the staff and pupils of Goldenhill Primary School.

We have always found the staff to be helpful and friendly. They do their upmost to get the most out of all the pupils, even giving us some more homework when we asked for it. The teachers and the headmaster will make time for you if you have an issue to discuss, even when you just pop in after school.

The before and after school care club is superb, some of the schools we looked at appeared to make an half hearted attempt at this service. Goldenhill Pimary School have the full package, the staff are brilliant and the kids love playing with all their friends and taking part in the many activities.

Anyway we all need to keep up the good work to keep the school at this excellent status, that being staff, pupils and not forgetting us the parents.

I am proud to send my kids

I am proud to send my kids there so well done to all the staff & Pupils on getting such a fantastic result.

The school is a safe and pleasant enviroment for the children I feel so privilliged that my children attend the school.

The only sour note for me was the letter to parents from the Lead inspector where he says "I have asked for one improvement and that is that you have better opportunities to learn more about different people and cultures around the world so that you understand how they help their own communities and what you can learn from them."

My answer to that is I have been to 2 class assemblys recently where they have done Romans and roman culture and also a worldwide travel with barnaby bear explaining the different cultures from across the globe. They also have just raised money for cows in different villiages in Africa. Also there is many pictures of different cultures around the world etc all around the school. In my opinion the children are being taught enough about this.
I personally think they should be taught about some of this countrys history and what we have given to the world over the centurys along with what they are already taught about other cultures. I hope that the school goes down that avenue Subjects like Henry VIII and the 2nd world war and even the Suffragette's.

That caused me to frown a

That caused me to frown a bit.

During the summer, the school focused on modern world leaders and our eldest who had just turned 6 spoke nothing else of Nelson Mandela for weeks, and held him in high regard.

He knew words like freedom, and fairness and oppression. He'd gotten the gist of everything that was wrong with South Africa at the time and what Mandela did to secure a new start for his nation. That's a pretty important life lesson if you ask me.

At the minute he's learning about the Great Fire of London, and how it started, why it spread, what had happened the year before across all of Europe and he's taking it all in, and wanting to learn more at home.

I've got no objections with what they are learning and just happy that UmpaLumpa1 is taking it all in and learning.
