106 money
I have been begging the council, and councillors for help to have a park built on the Hoskins Estate for our young children,...
What is going on with our councillors?
Reading tonights Sentinel money allocated to areas in Tunstall, Golden Hill, and Sandyford is not being used.
In fact how many people knew about this money, that was supposed to be used for the communities?
I have been begging the council, and councillors for help to have a park built on the Hoskins Estate for our young children, and been constantly told "theres no money".
Its time I believe for the Resident Associations to come together and sort this money out so we can put it into the communities that it was supposed to be for.
Whats your thoughts on this? Terry

New houses?
Hi Terry, you'll have to forgive my ignorance I'm not originally from around here.
Is the Hoskins Estate, the new houses that have been built (next to the cycle path)?
As you'll have read, we got our park in the end, but not without a lot of effort my members of our community. I just hope you don't have to wait 7 years for anything to happen.
How many new starts can this council have, and still fail, and fall over. This one is basic accounting and accountability. Something the councils knows very little of.
reply
Hey up Webb Monkey, no the Hoskins Estate is the one oppersite the Talisman public house.
Yes I totaly agree about our council, and our councillors.
I have asked questions about the 106 money that should have been allocated around here only to be told some of it is allocated to Ford Green Hall.
Surely this is illegal?
This is going to cause a bit of a stink when people find out I believe.
The R/As need to get together to discuss this upcomming problem. Terry.
Heated
Terry when is you next RA meeting? It's going to be a bit heated no doubt.
reply
Web Monkey our next meeting is Mon Dec 7, and yes you can guarantee its going to be heated as our committee has worked hard raising money, because we were told there was none spare.
There is also the R/A forum comming up, so I expect a few fireworks there.
The fact that this money has been sitting in bank accounts gaining interest is gauling especialy as the council have been asking the R/As to work for their community raising money, and having to wait to get their projects off the ground while they raise that money.
I expect SAGE/TIARA and other R/As are pretty angry. TERRY
They should be good and mad
They should be good and mad Terry. The way it works with this money, if it hasn't been used within a specific time, the companies that paid the money in as part of their contract, can claim it back from the council.
The money paid is for a specific job or jobs, and as it is part of the written contract, is legally binding. If part of this money is allocated to your area, the council will be breaking the law if they don't release those funds to you.
Good luck.
Further advice
As Craig says, It is my understanding that 106 agreements are between the council and Builders/ constructors, this money is used for a specific project eg playground. If the project is not built, then the builder is entitled to the money back. If you know of a 106 agreement in your area, first contact the council to see what their plans are, get in touch with the constructors/ builders, if you then have no joy, contact the ombudsmen, they can do a audit on where the monies lie. In the case of the bankeyfields 106 agreement, the council were contacted about the playground, a voting slip was sent out to the residents to ask how the money should be used, as they wanted to use part of it to improve Tunstall park, (not sure about the legality of this). Anyone that has free legal advice with there insurers, should contact them for further advice. I hope this has been of some help.

Webb Monkey tried asking councillors about this money and got a load of waffle back.
got a feeling something is amiss here, and deserves further investigation.
Does not seem to be paperwork anywhere, and having to ask under the freedom of information Act to get any will let you and other associations if I have any luck.
By the way our meeting is arranged for the 9th of this month.
TERRY.

If the issue is still ongoing, keep it going
Hiya Ian
Don't worry about bringing up an issue previously posted, I regularly reopen old posts, especially if the issue is still ongoing.
As to your comment, it's just disgusting that things like this get tied up in red tape, then forgotten when case officers move on, and no one picks them up. £140,000 is a heck of a lot of money for a community and a school to lose.
Is this a case of behind the scenes deals, (councilors in builders pockets), or general incompetence.
P.S Ian - what do you think of the name change, and expanding the borders of the site, to cover Tunstall? Does it make it easier to post more often?
106
no wrong doing i hope, just gets agreed and if no one follows up just gets forgotten
yes like the new site aims and design(cloud words are nice for some reason), but for me the forums showing up bit random
