RESIDENTS are calling for safety measures at a roundabout which they claim is a factor in a number of car accidents near their estate.
Bankeyfields residents are calling for speed cameras, warning signs or markings on the roundabout overlooked by Focus on Reginald Mitchell Way, to stop drivers speeding.

Strength in Numbers
Would some sort of protest by all the residents of the estate help. Perhaps if we were to all gather at the roundabout with placards have a show in numbers. Get the Sentinel down just to show the depth of feeling regarding this issue.
Good call
Yeah cracking idea, I like the sound of that.

If funds are limited why have the Council just spent £100,000 on Chatterley road just around the corner which as far as I know suffered no speeding and no accidents?

It's different when lives are at stake
Business comes first Ian, they are opening the road up for when Golden Dale (below the cemetery/By the sill statue) starts work.
Sod peoples well being.
What gauls me is that council have no experience of the road otherwise they would have done something about the bank.
It doesn't even have to be expensive. He's a guestimate of the prices.
Mini Digger example cost
3 Days £160.00 + VAT
Skip Hire
Approx £500 + VAT
New Turf
No Idea - £500 + VAT
That's a made up figure of £1160
- Because the land hasn't be adopted then could we do it ourselves?
We have the same problem on
We have the same problem on the B5500 out side our house with the speed of the traffic.
Have a chat with your Police Road Safety Office aty your local Police Station he should be able to help you/point you in the right direction of help.
We have a 30mph on the B5500 and must admit that not many motorists abide by it. We have 30mph stickers on our wheelie bins which go out on a Wednesday as a reminder to folk and we have a flashing 30mph at the top of the bank which is totally ignored by some. We got these through the Police Road Safety Officer.
In addition the Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator for the area should keep a log of complaints etc from people who have used the roundabout and pass that on to the neighbourhood Watch manager for your area who should be able to help your cause.
Have you spoken to the Staffordshire County Council Highways, and let them know about the situ.
Our local Councillor was a boon too, she really helped us with our cause.

PC Talbot, NHW, thanks for the advice
Hi Dawn
Our local Community Officer PC Talbot is aware of the accident waiting to happen round about of ours and has kindly arranged for a mobile police van to police Reginald Mitchell Way and slow traffic down.
So it's good to know that Staffs Police recognise there's a problem, even if the council refuse to admit it.
Good idea about logging all complaints. Most have come to the website, or the old NHW, but as part of the new NHW we've not prompted people to log complaints.
I'll put a note on the site asking people to do so using the NHW contact form.
We haven't contact the County Council, I think mostly because we've had such a negative response from the local council, so again good advice, we'll do that.
Hopefully the balls in motion, some people should now start to take note of the police presence and The Sentinels Article, and treat the round about with care.
Glad you have a local councillor of use, always comes in handy come the next election.
Good luck with your road campaign too.
Thanks
Matt
I have slight reservations
I have slight reservations at this idea, as the more the estates 'problems' are advertised, will houses not become devalued (even more so than with the current economic issues)?
Maybe the opposite will happen
Hi James, this issue needs to be advertised as the council aren't taking it seriously.
Like any place up and down the land, they all have issues. As a community trying to make those issues go away, maybe the opposite will happen, and people will see this as a good place to live, as residents stick up for themselves and with some luck, lots of badgering we'll get something done.
I'd gladly live in a place like that.
Your right though, we (
shouldn't always focus on the negatives of the estate, we should also highlight good news. So if anyone has some post it onto the site.
Value of Properties
I would of thought that if one had their property up for sale, regardless of price, a prospective buyer, running the gauntlet of the roundabout at peak times, would decide to buy else where because of the dangerous road condition.
Posted this comment on the Sentinel
Not sure if it got posted but here is a copy:
It seems to me that the problem caused by ‘inconsiderate’ drivers would be cured by the fitting of a fixed speed camera, near to the roundabout. If the council can fit an ‘overkill’ of Speed Cameras on Dividy Road, then why cant one of these be uprooted and replaced on Reginald Mitchell Way? I'm sure the revenue generated by this camera would benefit other road safety projects in the City.
With the opening of the Tunstall Northern Bypass, this has increased traffic using the Reginald Mitchell Way and has thus increased the problem. This has gone on enough now, and should there be a fatality on this roundabout, I would hold Andy Norman and The City council in general, responsible. It’s about time Stoke City Council got off the Gravy Train and gave serious thought to this situation.
All I'm thinking is: How
All I'm thinking is:
How many people used the letter I created to send a private communication to the council. Anyone who did, sign below.
I;m not sure that creating public awareness will be as beneficial as private communictaion, and productive face to face meetings.
That's all. My opinion only, albeit genuinely held.

As they say at Tesco. Every little Helps.

People Power
It is obvious to me that the council seem to think that the issue With speed and traffic calming measures on Reginald Mitchell Way is a cause of frustration to just a few residents on the estate. I think it is time for the whole estate to unite as one and show the council that this problem affects us all and we are to be taken seriously. May I suggest we hold some form of protest down on the roundabout with perhaps a slow march from the Focus roundabout up to the KFC roundabout and back again highlighting the problem we have? I am sure if the protest was well documented by the Sentinel and perhaps Midlands Today and other media groups we may get the traffic calming measures we deserve rather than the three serious accidents the council are waiting for. Bare in mind any such protest would have to be well attended by the majority of the Estate.
Chatterley Valley crash
Looks like a serious crash tonight on the lower roundabout.
I couldn't/wouldn't look, can't stand rubbernecking. So don't know if anyone was hurt.
Matt : Chatterley Valley
Matt : Chatterley Valley development should have had a seperate link road included (phase 3), funded by the developer linking chaterley road to brownhills road. but this was deemed not essential and council funded TNB(phase 4) instead.
It was Steve Robinson (x chief exec) that pushed for it Cllr Knapper that ageeded to it knowing full well it was not even on council Traffic Claiming prioity list.
BTW not sure boy racers can read the day after article saw a white saxo going for it..

It's not even finished
Hi Ian.
All that money spent and the road seems a little rough around the edges, with the old line stripes still partial clear, making traffic coming from Chatterely Valley think they have to go wide.
Bit like sandyford open space - unfinished.
Council Madness
In my opinion it looks as though this council of our’s has two budgets, one for all the important issue’s of the city regarding housing, regeneration, roads and social care, unfortunately this pot only has a few pennies in the bottom. Then there is the budget for lets waste money for the sake of it fortunately this pot is overflowing with cash. I bet if we were to ask the council to commission a piece of art work on the Focus roundabout they would jump at the chance. I was thinking along the lines of two smashed up cars by a set of pearly gates that had got the councils logo on them with the words welcome underneath all finished off in shiny galvanized steel. It is an absolute disgrace to think that there has to be three major accidents on this stretch of road before anything is done.
Dont forget the 3rd budget
Dont forget the 3rd budget which is the largest of them all- for the strict, confidential use of the councillors themselves on whatever they wish. However, now that the 'important budget' is down to just those last few pennies, people are starting to ask questions, and the truth will out.
£1million on shrubs
I read a while back in Sentinel that our wonderfull council are to spend £1 million replacing the shrubs and trees along the length of the Hanley bypass. Mayor Merideth said they needed replacing as they looked shabby. I wondered if any one had pointed out to him its still winter and they will look a little well shabby. But in a few weks time it will be spring and then all the trees and shrubs burst into life themselves when they blossom and bloom. He could of learned that at school Oh he wants to shut most of them down.
steve think its nearer
steve think its nearer £2million, but they are already matured trees, and hedge rows, so bit of a bargain really, oh and some fresh turf. hope they got bit spare for sandyford
•°o.OO.o° » http://iannorris68.wordpress.com/ « °o.OO.o°•
Yep - £2m on "semi-mature"
Mark Meredith is at the centre of it (!!) but the money is coming from North Staffordshire Regeneration Partnership's and not the council..........

Picture Caption
I was watching Brewsters Millions the other night, and I couldn't stop thinking about Stoke on Trent City Council.
Anyway caption - "Yeaaaaaaa that's how you blow £2 Million, now move along deary, we are trying to have our photos taken for the paper."
£ Where
Come on some one tell me where do North Staffordshire Regeneration Partnership get a percentage of their funding from.
Will someone also tell them that the trees and shrubs that were already there were semi mature as the Hanley by pass is 20+ years old and they regenerate themselves every spring.
Digging a hole
Is that our Lord Mayor digging a hole ? For himself may be?.
