Speed Checks on RMW

By

view counter

Just a quick note to let you know that there is currently an operation to combat speeding vehicles on Reginald Mitchell Way. This will be an ongoing thing, and so you may see Police in the area over the next few weeks.

On the subject of speed, there is also an initiative to start a community speed watch in the area, whereby members of the community actually use the speed device and conduct speed checks themselves. This involves a small amout of training in the device, and obviously a little time to do the speed checks.

Anyone interested should send me an email, and I can forward your details to the trainers concerned.

Thanks

Reginald Mitchell Way

Hi Glyn

Great news about the mobile speed cameras.

I've got a question for you about the community speed watch. Will that available for Reginald Mitchell Way - especially the round about? In the past we've been told we can't do the scheme there. If we can that will be excellent news, I think you'll have more volunteers than you can handle.

Nice one

Matt

Read All About It !!!!!!!!!!

Just a quick note thanking PC Talbot for the inside information regarding a greater police presents on R.M Way over the next few weeks to deter speeding vehicles, I am sure that this info will be passed on to friends and family, work colleagues and all and sundry. What is the point of a police presents if you are going to advertise the fact, you might as well put posters up, I am sure the more people caught speeding down this stretch of road will reinforce any argument that we may have for speed calming measures.

Perhaps we should adopt the same tact with regards to the dog fouling, lets tell everyone that community enforcement officers will be on the open-space for the next few weeks and anyone caught not cleaning up after there dogs will be prosecuted and fined. Let’s see how many people start cleaning up the poop.

Poop

Bryn your poo mad Waiting

Your point about advertising the fact about the speed cameras. Signal Radio, Radio Stoke, The Sentinel all announce the fact that speed cameras are about, so I guess theres nothing you can do in that respect.

At least Glyn is building links with us and also offering us the chance of a community road safety scheme.

Anyway look at the positives. The first one is that the Police know there is a problem, that's why they've put this temporary traffic calming measure in place. They know, we know, hopefully council will finally know. We can use that in the long run.

Secondly, you've said it your self, everyone tells each other and they slow down. Result. I'm happy with that.

Speeding

I can't beleive what i am reading, we ask for help to try to and ease a very serious problem and some people moan about the police trying to resolve it.

I beleive it is a very useful police initiative to slow drivers down through their presence, not all drivers in Stoke on Trent read this site, please give credit where it is due. It is about changing driving habits and educating the drivers through such initiatives.

We had a meeting Monday evening (leaflet posted with details)for the neighbourhood all the estate was invited, please attend these meetings and you will know the depth of feeling for both speeding and the dog poo and other issues that are relevant to us all

I actually posted last week

bj-dj61...I actually posted last week the fact that the Sentinel reported that speed checks will be done on Reg Mitch Way. Not exactly ground breaking news from PC Talbot.

I would hope that this was actually immaterial anyhow, seeing as people who live and use the estate should be driving responsibly anyway.

Perhaps you would like to go back to old days when officers hid in the bush's.

I think more people that are nicked, the better on this road.

All it needs is a permanent fixed speed camera on the approach to the roundabout and all this crap will cease!

Yes I agree with the Web Monkey. Let everyone know...That's the point. Every one will slow down. Job done!!!

After all, it has not been published when these checks will take place, so if peeps want to run the gauntlet with speeding after being given all the publicity, then they need to be dealt with very severely if caught speeding.

Any comments on bringing back hanging too....Smile

Think about it

bjdj61 The idea is to get people to slow down not to catch them speeding. So if people know that they are likely to be caught speeding on RMW they will not speed.

We are now all very aware of your numerous posts on this site re dog fouling. I did expect you to come to the meeting on Monday after all the more support the more likely the council will act with signs dog wardens etc. After all it took some badgering of the council to get the poo bins put in.I personally offer people poo bags if I see them failing to clean up after their pets. It tends to embarrass them into cleaning up in a non confrontational way.

I did say a cheery hello to you once on the open space whilst you were out with your dog but you chose to ignore me then too.

Shift Work

STEVE

Before you decide to post comments on this web site regarding my attendance or non attendance to the Neighbourhood Watch meeting would you kindly gather all the facts, I do not know whether or not you are aware that some people on this estate actually work shifts. For myself I can only apologies sorry that I work nights and I have a 50 minuet drive up the M6, but if you are prepared to;

1, Pay my wages for the night
2, Hold the meeting at a time that is convenient to me,

I shall be more than happy to attend, regarding your comments about me ignoring you on the open space whilst I was out walking my dog, please accept my apologies as I was not aware that I had done this if our paths are to cross in the future please feel free to introduce yourself and I shall make every effort to speak to you.

very aware of shifts

BJDJ I am aware of shift work having done them for more years than I care to remember. If you would like to attend a meeting please post comments on the NHW forum on when it would be convienient for you to attend. We do try to have meetings at times that suit the majority of people though we can not please all of the people all of the time. Out of every negative comes a positive.

P.S I belive the next meeting is being held much earlier in the evening to suit more people.

shiftwork

Not that old chesnut again, I would suggest you hold your meetings when those who show interest are available, which i think you are doing, the old NHW held their meetiings to suit those who were interested at the time, plus it was at a time whereby we had a police presence, plus it fell in with the working hours of Steve Morriss, our NHW manager, even we were questioned about the timing, keep up the good work. (shift worker).

Cheers Mark

Thanks for your support. As a past member of the NHW, and the founder of the bankeyfields website and bulletin board, I'm sure you can tell some stories of how hard it is to get people to meetings.

We are trying to hold the meetings in the early evenings so it gives more people a chance to attend. However this does effect people who work shifts (our NHW chairman suffers from this too, as he works shifts)

We tend to post meeting dates in advance (a little late this time) but if any one wants to chip in but can't attend, prepare a document that can be read out, and we'll get your points across.

out of working hours (9 to 5)

we found it very difficult to get people, eg council officials, and other officers to meeting outside their working day, that is why they were held around midday

Volunteers needed for day time meetings

Yes right again, we have to be able to meet people during the day.

Sadly most of us work in the day, and are unable to shake an hour off of work. Thats why we need more volunteers who would be willing to champion causes during the day.

sharky's picture

paying wages, count me in

If you will pay wages, I will come back, there is an issue wiith back pay though, a grand should cover it, thats last year alone.

Web Monkey's picture

I was thinking more of

I was thinking more of a retired/part time/stay at home parent/shift worker
Although we could have a whip around to see what we can do, if not wages I can pay in NHW stickers and the odd beer token, but thanks for the offer.

Saying that, the NHW is open to everyone who wants to make a difference, it's just that we might need people who would enjoy working with the police and the council during the day from time to time.
