UPDATE: The date of the meeting has been set, and will be held on Monday 12th July 2010 at 7PM at Sandyford Cricket Club. On the night we'll be electing representatives to the Residents Association Board. We (as in all present) will also be setting our goals for the next 12 months.
We'll also be looking at the usual crime reports for our area, so if your having issues and need some help please come along.

As many of you may be aware the Bankeyfields Neighbourhood Watch Team tried to form a Residents Association, which would have given us more umph when dealing with local council and other groups such as highways, local trade, builders etc.

Bankeyfields needs you

We held elections at the start of the year and formed a new working group. However due to a family members ill health and sadly passing away we've not been able to form the group. However both myself and Steve have still been working behind the scenes with other members of the community on your behalf, and have already worked with the police to get the asbo patrol to include the Bankeyfields Park in it's rounds, and reported some major disturbances.

However we need to get the Residents Association going and going quickly as a number of changes are going to happen in the next year that mean if we don't have one, our estate might well be left high and dry, as our boundaries change from us being in the Tunstall Ward, to the Sandyford and Goldenhill ward.

Sandyford and Goldenhill have an excellent RA already, SAGE, who work hard for people in their area, and also have a massive amount of support. Without a RA, most of the councils time and resources will be going one way, and it won't be ours. So are our main aims are to: Get our land adopted by the council so much needed work can be put into place. Create a strong bond with the police, and community so that our borders, home, and park are well protected Tackle the speeding issues on our estate Work with Sandyford Fire Station to provide amenities for our residents.

So, if anyone is interested in helping, and you live in the streets covered below, please post a comment below, or send a message via the contact us form

We are also going to need a member of every street on the board if we are able to provide an effective team.

As we've learnt from the past, the council aren't going to look after us, so it's down to us to look after ourselves. Lets not let our estate turn into a s@!t hole, as appears to be happening on the open space.

We're not going to set a date yet for a meeting, but it will be held at Sandyford Cricket Club, and lifts to the meeting are available if people want to ask.

Streets covered by the Bankeyfields Residents Association and Neighbourhood Watch : John Rhodes Way, Ernest Edgerton Close, William Coltman Way, George Eardely Close, Andrew Mulligan Close, Beaufighter Grove, Spitfire Way, Mustang Close, Boston Close, Shackleton Drive, Dakota Drive, Hurricane Grove.

Would it not be possible to encompass our RA into theirs???

Hi Gordy that is a

Hi Gordy that is a possiblity, but when I spoke to Tom from SAGE last year they would only take half of the estate, the Swallows Rise part, and not the Heritage park, as that was outside of the Sandyford boundaries.

It could take a lot of preasure of some of us, as SAGE are a shining example of how things are done, and do a grand job.

But I personally think we need to keep the estates together, as we share alot of common ground, such as the park, the open space, the roundabout, Reginald Mitchell Way and so on.

Fair point as we are

Fair point as we are intrinsically joined, would be a shame to leave you lot....
What RA would we on the better side hav to join???

and if the boundaries could not include us on this side, then........ well you can guess what i feel......

Hiya Emma Thats brilliant

Hiya Emma

Thats brilliant Emma thanks for stepping forward.

Our own meetings will be held when we can all make it, and they don't always have to be held at the cricket club.
Smaller meetings for just the "board" we can hold anywhere that's convenient, such as at someones home/pub/back yard even on the open space.

There are always times when someone can't make it and we've all got to be flexible with it, especially as it's us giving up our own free time, so don't worry about that.

Streets we very rarely, if ever get residents from are:
Ernest Edgerton Close, William Coltman Way, George Eardely Close, Andrew Mulligan Close, Beaufighter Grove, Spitfire Way, Boston Close, Shackleton Drive, Dakota Drive

However all residents are welcome and needed to make this work, so folk from John Rhodes Way and Mustang, don't think you get off lightly.

12th July 2010 - Sandyford

12th July 2010 - Sandyford Cricket Club - It's our chance to stop the decline in services for our estate.

Make a difference, don't leave it to the other folk.

I'm going to need volunteers who are comfy posting leaflets, and also knocking on doors to round up support. Probably best if a person did their own street.

(GOVERNMENT CUTS ) Hey up

(GOVERNMENT CUTS ) Hey up Matt considering that our new government is hell bent on wielding the big axe in a ploy to save money do you think that this may have a detrimental effect on how local councils help and support resident associations. Plus the cost of policing is to be cut what affects, could this have regarding neighbourhood policing.

Web Monkey's picture

I think it's even more

I think it's even more important that we as a community stick together, help the police where we can, so what's left of Police resources after the next cull (remember they already had a short fall in budget the last time around, and now they are expected to make even more cuts).

Web Monkey's picture

It gets worse, during my

It gets worse, during my lunch break Prime Ministers Question time was on, with David Cameron laughing and joking about about the cuts to the police forces.

He then tried to make light of the cuts by raising the point that crime had more than doubled during labours years in power.

So if crime has doubled, why are police forces being reduced? It's not like criminals think, oh the Tories are in, lets behave now. No, they'll take one look at the watered down sentences and go for it big time.

Life has just become that little bit more cheaper, under that smarmy [self edited]...
