Bin Men With A Glass Back
Today I followed the bin men off the estate going down Spitfire Way, every time they stopped the bin wagon to empty the bins something fell out of the bin on to the road as they were being emptied. As we got near to the bottom of the estate I asked the bin man why they never picked up any of the rubbish which had fell on to the road his reply was “it’s not our job to pick rubbish off the road we are here to load the bins onto the wagon. I asked him whose responsible then, he told me” it was down to the residents to clean it up or failing that call the council.” I called the council and they have said they are going to look into this matter as it is the bin mans responsibility to pick up any rubbish that has fallen from the bin wagon however they are allowed to refuse to empty your bin if the lid does not shut properly.

Considering not many
Considering not many residents clear snow in the winter, and the amount of rubbish in the open space, I cant see many residents wanting to pick up rubbish from roads / footpaths, that may or may not be theirs, I can imagine the comments from some people, along the lines of prove that the rubbish is from my bin.
Also considering some of the youngsters of today, most of them probably use the roads / footpaths as bins anyway, although there are some kids who do actually use bins, they are a minority.
I know when the glass bottles used to be recycled in the green box before the bin, many a Monday night we would come home to broken glass on the footpath which on the way to the park / school trips was always a nightmare as the bin men never picked that up either, we refused to reccycle when we had the boxes, at least with bins that bit of a hazard has been removed now with the bins.
Good luck to the council with their investigations
