A man visited an elderly householder in the city claiming to be working for the Council. The man told the householder that there have been a number of burglaries recently in their area and that as a result they would be fitting security locks to all windows. The man then inspected the bedroom and the lounge. The householder later discovered that £700 had been stolen.

What should I do?
This is a scam. If someone claims to be from the Council and tries to gain entrance to your property without informing you by letter first when they are coming, call the Council to check if they are genuine. Do not rely on inspecting their ID as this is easily forged.
