City council backs Six Towns Challenge
Stoke-on-Trent City Council is supporting the “Six Towns Challenge”, a Rotary organised charity walk to tie in with the centenary of the federation of Stoke-on-Trent.
Taking place on Saturday 8 May 2010, the walk raises money for local charities, and will be started by the Lord Mayor Councillor Jean Bowers, Port Vale’s Gareth Owen and the Rotary District Governor
Up to 250 people will be taking part in the event including council staff, Rotary clubs, scouts, air sea cadets, Stoke Citizens Advice Bureau, sea cadets and the Grocott Centre.
The walk begins outside Tunstall Town Hall and walkers will then make their way from Tunstall, through Burslem, Hanley, Stoke, Fenton and finish in Longton outside Tesco.
Each of the participants who take part in the event will be presented with a commemorative mug produced by Edwardian China made in Longton.
Stoke-on-Trent Markets are supporting the event providing refreshments along the way.
Last year over £8,000 was raised for the Donna Louise Childrens Hospice and this year organisers are aiming to better that total.Q
Martin Ketterick, Rotary Six Towns Challenge organiser, said “What better way to celebrate the centenary of the federation of Stoke-on-Trent than people coming together to walk through the historic six towns that put it on the map and help raise money for local people.”
Lord Mayor Councillor Jean Bowers added: “The Rotary Club walks are always successful and the city is proud to support them. It’s great example of how organisations can work together to raise money for good causes.”
