Hurricane Grove home owners, we need a group of you to attend the next Neighbourhood watch meeting
Over the past few days homes in Hurricane Grove have had pots, plants, garden furniture removed from their drives and carried off.
Residents have also reported car doors being checked by passers by, and some strange comings and goings.
If you see anything suspicious call the police on - 0300 123 4455.
It appears that a lot of the problems stem from the alley way at the top of HG, and residents of the street have been called for it to be closed.
A member of the Neighbourhood Watch team will be contacting the council tomorrow to try and get the alley way looked at.
What we now need from everyone whose being effected by these crimes or crimes related to the alley way to come to the next meeting, and present your issues.
Cast your vote if you want the alley way closing between Hurricane Grove and Summer Bank Road

The alley way is looking
The alley way is looking fine at the moment, there was someone on the land next to it clearing it up with a mini digger and burning any rubbish on Wednesday morning, and there has been a new fence; which from a distance looks quite substantial; put up between the alleyway and the vacant plot.
I am a little confused by residents asking for the alleyway to be closed, as many I know use it to get into Tunstall and to the shop on Summerbank Road, many using this as an alternative to getting the car out. If it were to be closed, the only ways off the estate would be either the path through the open space or the exits onto RMW, negating the advantage of not using the car. It would also make it lethal to exit the estate on foot during snowy and icy times, therefore meaning you had to use the car to get to work, instead of taking the bus from the top of the road.
Personally I don't know of any pots that have gone missing, but if they were taken by people using the Hurricane Grove public footpath, then why were they left in another part of the estate?
Action
Does anyone know if the council or the owners of the land have done the grounds work?
The Neighbourhood Watch team were in touch with the council this week, as have the police and residents.
I spoke to PC Talbot last night and he says there are still a number of pots still to be claimed.

Just another thought to
Just another thought to anger the other residents of HG, it might not be so easy for passers by to check car doors if the cars were parked on the driveways rather than on the road making it dangerous for other cars using the road and reducing visibility all down the road, especially around the corners.
I second everything that
I second everything that Janet says. I've heard about "potgate" - non of mine were taken (probably because all my plants were dead!), but I haven't heard about the residents calling for the alleyway to be closed. I don't have to use the alleyway on a regular basis as I usually get a lift with my daughter to school, but occasionally that isn't possible and I have to use the alleyway. Without it, my journey would be considerably longer and as anyone with children knows, it is difficult to get them to walk even the shortest distances these days! I do tend to use it considerably more during the summer months. I've noticed the work which has been taking place and will take a walk up there later to have a good nosy!
The car situation is a difficult one, especially as alot of properties have 2 cars, but I agree with Janet, if you have room on your drive, use it!
Just in case people haven't
Just in case people haven't thought of this one before, if you're getting a taxi back from Hanley at night, and can manage the stagger from the alley way back to your house, it can save you at least £1 per journey to be dropped off by the alley and then walk home rather than get the taxi company to drive you all the way round the estate. Every little helps as they say, and yes, I do feel safe walking the short journey from the taxi, down the alley and down to my house at 2 and 3 o'clock in the morning. (Plus it saves my neighbours being woken up by me getting out of a taxi at that time
