Duplicate entries for logged in user bug fix - hopefully

A couple of weeks ago Sharkey reported that he was seeing double, well, seeing duplicate entries on the home page in the latest articles list, and in the footer quick links.

We'd chatted about this using google talk, and as the error wasn't replicating for me, I put it down to him not liking the way the comments displayed which article they were from, so if you've got a few comments, then you will see the title of the article repeated over and over.

Then last night I bumped into Richard and Rach and they were saying they didn't like the new home page layout, they much preferred the old table layout, and the new one looked weird.

Both of these times, I'd looked at the site both logged in as Web Monkey and logged out as a guest, and everything looked to be fine,

Then, last night I was around James house, doing some work on his brand new website congleton vets when we took a quick look at one of the articles on the site. Then I saw it, the same article was being displayed on the home page, I'm guessing he article appeared for how ever many comments there were.

So with a bit of poking (technical term for trying lots of things to work out why, and fixing it) I think I've got the problem beaten. I hope.

I was hoping to play with the logos, and refine bits and pieces based on what people had said, but I thought this was more important.

All I need now is some feedback to say it's working.

I still don't know how my user view and the guest view was fine, while everyone elses wasn't (hopefully) but if you all say it's fixed, then I'll be happy.

Lastly apologies to Sharkey, crossed wires, me not being able to replicate the error and so on; how ever can I recommend a free bit of software for windows users called zscreen. It allows you to capture your screen, and save it straight to a file using the [Print Screen] button.

Layout

Rachel says it is a bit better, but the old layout was much better.

can we get rid of the CAPTCHA it is really annoying!!!!!!

CAPTCHA

Would like to point out that it is not me that has a problem wit the CAPTCHA system just Richard, have just done a post on the speed cameras and it didn't ask me to enter anything this time.

I know Captcha is a pain, but

I know Captcha is a pain, but your user level (approved) shouldn't have been showing it. It was a little mix up left over from the upgrade.

The captcha wasin place because way back when anyone could post, all they had to do was get past captcha and then get past me , Steve or Sharky for approval.

I'd still let users who didn't have an account post, but there was just to much spam to cope with.

Repeats

I am glad to say I am no longer seeing double, although I agree I did like the old style layout, but will no doubt get used to it, hope I do not have any captchas, hard to read on the Hero.

Save or post

Thought you were going to confuse, why change post to save?

The software did it, can't

The software did it, can't say it makes much difference, its the only button available.

Different generation I guess Wink

Not that bloody old.

Its just that from now on, instead of asking users to post their comments, you will be asking users to save their comments, mind you the credit crunch is still with us, so savers may be quite apt.

Do the city council use the same software

After months of the city council cocking up my council tax, either by a useless imput clerk, or dodgy programmers, I decided to cancel the direct debit route, and pay in full, guess what? My new yearly bill has arrived, and at the bottom it states, "thank you for paying by direct debit" Please, IT bods, keep it simple, you confuse people if it does not have a yes or no answer. HeHe.

Save, post are both plain

Save and Post are both plain English descriptions of what your action should be. I think both are acceptable.

Clerical staff that can't take a bi5 of much needed money for a cash strapped council is another.

Please post it up as a blog, to highlight the issues you've had further.
