Glass and dog poo in the Bankeyfields play area - does it really have to be this way?

Last night on my way home from the pub/Kashmir garden at about 12:45 there where still youths in the park. It was far two dark to see how many, but judging by glows from mobiles there were more than 5.

So this morning I thought I'd have a quick look at what state the park was in.

The first problem I came across was a large smashed bottle on the path on the John Rhodes side, which is used by dog walkers and parents and kids.

I then took a look at the park, and the story just gets worse. The toddler area of the park had four or five separate dog poos, some fresh, some completely trod in, some partially trodden in.

Moving onto the bigger kids area, I was drawn to the remnants of last nights party, next to a park bench. The area was littered with finished cans, 3ltr bottle of cider, discarded wine bottle and other assorted crap. On the plus side, at least one couple practiced safe sex judging from the discarded condom.

Again the really losers are the ones who the park was built for, , and while the park is in this state, many parents will choose to stay away for fear of serious harm coming to their children.

I don't know what time the party finished, but I think 12:45 is far to late anyway, making the racket they were making. I'd like to call for a curfew be placed on the park, or even as Bryn suggested, erecting a bigger fence around it to stop further damage from happening.

I also think we should call for more police patrols, and a complete ban from possession alcohol in and around the openspace and park.

I don't see why we should accept this, or why we should allow it continue.

Please have your say.

No Respect

These kids have no respect, but then again, I bet they've never been taught it in the first place

Higher fence locked Gates

If the fence was higher and the gates locked after dark we would not have this problem but yet again a simple solution like this would go straight over the heads of the council. You will find that there would be a lengthy procedure we the residents would have to go through to get this anti- social behaviour stopped. You will find that the police have to be called out and several complaints made to the council before anything is done. Who would be in favour of getting the fence altered and the kiddies play area and sports court being locked at night, as I said in an earlier post I for one would be happy to be a key holder?

I agree, the only way to deal

I agree, the only way to deal with this is to lock the people out who want to ruin the park for every body else.
They've had their chance to put things right, and it's not happened.

No doubt we'll be quoted some ridiculous price for the fencing and installing, but I think it's an idea worth pursuing.

We've also got to consider the case of the law. I don't know one way or the other but I imagine most of the drinkers are underage, so a lot can be done by the police to tackle this problem. They're loud, they'll be out of their faces, they are damaging public property and making what should be a safe area unsafe to use.

If anyone supports this sort of action it would be good to hear from you either via the comments (signing up to the site takes a few minutes) or if you'd rather send an email via the contact us form, they please do so.

After the efforts as well

Sorry can't comment on the noise aspect as not around this weekend but given your comments on the time you heard the noise stop, glad we weren't around. From reading the above comments then do I take it after the park and footpaths were cleaned last week we are back to stage one again?

Hi Rich, The noise didn't

Hi Rich,

The noise didn't stop at that point, it was in full swing.
