It's like calling your dog "Dog", or your cat "Cat". It's like naming your first born son "Boy", or affectionately saying to your wife "Wife, what's for tea?".
Well that's what our wise and knowing council are planning to do with Hanley, completely changing the name to City Centre. What's so great about the name Hanley? I've heard some people say. Well what's so great about then name City Centre?
And what about our local dialect? You must have heard the popular phrase "Goan up Anley tonite duck?" this will become "Goan up City Center tonite duck?" It just doesn't work.
Also have the council even considered adding new Tourist boards, so that tourists don't end up in Stoke Town centre thinking in a dodgy American accent, "WE SHOULD HAVE GONE TO PARIS! LOOK ALL OF THE PAINTS PEELING!". How about a nice cultural sign saying shops this way>>>>
No, none of that, they just want to sterilise the city, just like they've done with all of the houses and buildings that have been knocked down and left as brick strewn open spaced eyesores.
Well you can shove your City Centre, it's Hanley or 'anley.
