I witnessed a very strange event this morning, as an army of very blue darlak type bins, shepherding their human slaves infront them raced up John Rhodes Way on a slightly overcast tuesday morning.
At first I thought the BBC FX department had really hit rock bottom, then I realised our new bins were here.
If we have any forward thinking people who wouldn't mind posting on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday what bin day it will be on a monday I'd greatly appreciate it, as I normally have to wait for the houses across the road the road before I take mine out.

Theory
I have a theory that all the recycled plastic is used to make plastic recycling bins. Wonder what will happen when we dont need any more recycling bins !!!!!

• Blue Bin: This is used for plastic, mixed glass and cans. The blue bin will also be used with the existing green recycling box, for materials such as paper, newspaper, magazines, brochures, catalogues and junk mail.
• Brown Bin: This is for garden and food waste, including bark and leaves, small branches, cut flowers, plants and hedge clippings, and also cardboard.
• Grey Bin: This is for anything not to be recycled, including food, foil trays and aluminium foil, polystyrene food trays and packaging, ash from fires, disposable nappies and wrapped pet waste.
The blue bin, along with its green box, and the brown bin will be collected one week, while the grey bin will be collected the other week. This is designed to encourage people to increase the amount of recycling they do.
Foil food trays
Foil food trays and aluminium foil can be recycled in the blue bin - you don't have to put them into the grey bin.
Tax Disc
Hey Web Monkey...Is that Tax Disc in date on your car?
Post
It's in the erm post.......
Monday 7th September
It's all the recycling bins this week.
Does anyone know which bin
Does anyone know which bin you put the plastic bottle tops into once you've taken them off the bottles???
Plastic Bottle Tops
According to the sources I have read the council will not take them and they should go into the grey bin. However, many charities do accept the tops.
Thanks Richard I guess that
Thanks Richard
I guess that will be something to keep the incinerator going then
The new recycling system has
The new recycling system has meant a bit more effort in our house, such as rinsing out the yogurt pots, food trays etc. However, it has just proved to us how much recycleable waste we were throwing away. This week we only have 2 small bin bags in our grey bin - it's usually full! Surely, in the long run this can only be a good thing? We've also bought some 30L recycling boxes with lids from JTF for only £5.99 each. They can be stacked on top of each other and saves the constant trips outside to the bins!
Water Bills
I just wonder; can we get a rebate on our water bills due to all the extra water required to wash everything before you put it in the blue bin!!!
Sounds good to me! Our
Sounds good to me! Our water bill had gone up by 33% for the last 6 months. Which reminds me, considering we're on a meter, I really need to look into that *disappears to try and find old water bills - may be gone a long time*
Is not difficult is it??
Dispite the council posting a letter with all the dates and readers posting it on the website there are grey bins outside folks homes.
One week is re-cycle week TOMORROW the 6th- (blue & brown bins, green box with paper in and clothes in the clear bag). The following week is the grey bin on its own with all the non-recycle inside and no blue, brown or green boxes.
It's really not rocket science!
rocket science!
yes i found that funny too!!
Confused
Were ALL the bins emptied today?
I put out the box with papers and the brown bin (not putting the blue bin out until it has a few more items - it will take me an age to fill it!) and they were duly emptied but when I got home there were several grey bins out that weren't there this morning when I left for work (although the same household's recyling bins were)
I've just seen the guy across the road wheel his grey bin back down the drive and it didn't seem as though it was full so were they emptied too?
No, the grey bins weren't
No, the grey bins weren't emptied today as far as I'm aware. Saw a few on my way up Spitfire Way this evening which were overflowing - think a trip to the tip may be in order for some!
yep, a trip to the tip for
yep, a trip to the tip for us too i think!!
Grey Bins
I saw the grey bins out up Spitfire as I was both leaving for work and coming home this evening. I don't think they were emptied as they were all in the same positions as they were when I left - with handles pointing out towards the street. One thing I have noticed is that the bins are always left with handles pointing back towards the houses when they have been emptied.
I was a bit peeved to have to have the bins out by 7 this morning, but was impressed when I heard the bin men here before 8
Luckilly we come under NUL
Luckilly we come under NUL council. IF anyone puts one of those hideous blue bins near my house I will not be responsible for my actions. WHY when something that keeps your rubbish in is made to look so damn hideous.
Why bright blue > are the binmen blind?
I refuse to have one of these blue hideous monstrosities should they come to Newcastle council.
What ever happened with blending into the background, do these bins so something special that means they are blue for a reason (double up as a childs play house?)
Bin Designs

Leigh, as a printer and probably a designer, can't you come up with a sticker we can put on our bins.
Pair of boggly eyes, a darlek, even the German Paratrooper target used for firing practice?
We could design and print a
We could design and print a sticker for the bin that says "my other bin used to be tasteful" or how about "THIS IS A BIN" just in case they cannot see it.
Honestly, seeing all of these by the side of houses just annoys the hell out of me, what ever happened to understated, its a BIN!
Rant over.
20-09-2009
All the recycling bins tomorrow.
Monday 28th Sept
Grey general rubbish bins are for collection on Monday 28th September.
(However due to the narrow access to the estate caused by the road works on the roundabout will the bin lorry make it lol?!)
