Whose John Bishop? Well for those of you who haven't been paying attention, John Bishop has been in most things funny through out 2009 and 2010. From 8 out of 9 cats, a big hit on BBC's Live at the Apollo, one of the dads from skins....

No one could appear more pleasantly baffled by his runaway success than Bishop. Not long ago a sales director of a pharmaceuticals company, he reminds the audience at the Warwick Arts Centre that last time he visited, he struggled to fill the studio space, relives in excruciating detail a central London gig almost entirely attended by his mates - and describes his nervous disorientation during Live at the Apollo, which involved colliding with the set.

Bishop has such a relaxed, bar-room rapport with his audience you marvel he didn’t start doing stand-up as a youngster but middle-age and life-experience help root his observations in a rich, warm, mildly acidic soil.

He’s both funny and appreciative about Elvis during his fat phase (“That’s why he wore a white jump-suit - like every bloke over 40, he didn’t know what to put on”). He’s at once scathing and paternally forgiving about the consumerist foibles of his three young sons, comparing fads today with the deprivations of yore. And he mingles childish triumphalism with shrewd self-mockery as he introduces us to the video-replay of a football charity match in which he got to join Liverpool legends at Anfield - the evening’s laddy live-the-dream climax.
