Spitfire stamps now on sale.
You can now buy the "British Design Classics Stamp Presentation Pack" presentation pack, which includes a stamp showing the Supermarine Spitfire - designed by Reginald Mitchell
The fully illustrated presentation pack contains a set of the 10 stamps. Inside design writer Jim Davies explains what makes each of these stamps a design icon.
The Spitfire was included as it helped to change the course world war II. What made the Spitfire such a decisive weapon, was it's ability to be small and built around a man and engine. Mitchell always considered the Spitfire a work in progress, and the Spitfire itself went through 40 different incarnations.
The aeroplane was retired in 1954 after seeing more than 20,000 planes produced.
