Having only moved on to the estate in august, and thinking it was nice and quiet, how wrong i have been. The snow has pushed me over the edge, i know boys will be boys and all that but when you are sitting in your own front room after a had day at work you dont expect your house, windows to be pelted with snowball!.this i dont mind as much as when my little girl looked out of the window said idiots stood there sticking their fingers up at her,,whats made it worse is i think these lads (gang) live on our estate,we also made a snowman for the little ones which lasted about 30 mins before it was detroyed again by said idiots, sorry for the rant but a little ticked off.........

Sorry

I'm sorry to hear that you've had problems. I have seen a group of lads messing about on parts of the estate, but only from a distance, so I couldn't see what they were up to.

Feel free to have a rant though, sometimes just typing it all out angrily gets it off your chest Smile

Not just our house

Welcome to the estate, it is normally a well behaved quiet estate, apart from the carol singers who arrive just after haloween!

We too are suffering from the snow balls but ours seem to be aimed at the front door, and whenever we look out of the window they have already left. Tonight when I got out the front door there were 2 sets 1 at one end of John Rhodes Way standing around byu the looks of it and 1 set running off down the footpath by the park - not sure who the guilty ones were.

We don't recall having this problem in February when it snowed so whether there is a new group of louts that have moved into one of the estates we don't know.

We refrain from putting anything in the front garden after about 5 years ago when our "Santa Stop Here" sign disappeared. However saying that the 2 snowmen that are in front gardens of John Rhodes Way seem to have remained intact.

Village of the damned kid

Thats because last year I caught one of the village of the damend kids (look the book up on the internet) kicking down our snowman. Our kids are only little and it wasn't fair. I caught them at it and made them s**t their pants, as they legged it.

I am amazed it lasted so long. I think I would built a snowman over them if I caught them this time around, as our little girl waves and says 'ellwo' every morning to him.

I'm not sure if the PCSO's or the police deal with this, but as there has been a bit of trouble with the alleyway above your house (leading onto Reginald Mitchell Way) I'd probably get in touch with the polices non-emergancy help line 0300 123 4455, and ask them if they can send out the "asbo car" to do a quick patrol.

Dobo - I've got a pressie for you if you can make the next Community Meeting on the 25th Jan.

Kens Snowman

Oh and Kens snowman is just that big and scarey that they wouldn't mess.

police

hi web monkey. yep i can make 25th, on call the week before n the missus not workin either, i will look forward to it.as for the police /pcso on sunday afternoon there was quite a lot of activity across the road from me, leading to some officers knocking on number 21, i dont think they were involved, as it seemed their garden was more a point of interest as it leads straight on to the raceway.not got a problem with the lads but when my kids are abused it;s a different matter..

Rach's picture

Snowy

What have you told your daughter then for when "snowy" has melted!!!!!!! and is no longer in the front garden.

What's the present then if Dobo makes the meeting on the 25th as Richard is planning on attending, do we get a present also!!!!!

Richard says "if you can't beat them join them", whilst we were watching Scrapheap yesterday they made a machine for firing tennis balls, perhaps we should get together and make a machine for firing snowballs, I reckon 100 balls per minute would suffice.

Fun

That sounds like fun, Rach. Smile

Thinking I was wondering about that prezzie too Wink

20MPH Sticker for your wheelie bin

Dobo has expressed his disdain, like myself for some of the people who feel the need to speed on the estate. In fact Steve read out one of his emails at a NHW meeting late last year which has kicked started the current focus of the group, and hopefully the community.

We have a finite number of bin stickers that if people leave their bins out Sunday night when neighbours and other residents of the estate leave for work the next morning they'll get a reminder to slow down.

The stickers aren't just for people with kids, we'd like as many people who can to carry the stickers on their bins and to support the scheme.

janet-k's picture

Ahh

Well, I don't think you can drive at 20mph by my house, as it's very close to a tight bend, and only a dozen or so people to drive past it, so I'll leave the finite number to be dished out where they will be more effective.

Plus, I'm on about my 3rd bin, as the council lorry, for some reason, seems to be developing a habit of eating them - literally. Laughing

dobo545's picture

well

stickers, what a cracking idea, will the fit on lamposts as well?.

Web Monkey's picture

Stickers - a start

We do have some mounted signs. Not put any up because of the weather.
We have had an ok from the council to put them up.

Oh and they are massive, not the size of well done stickers, but if you put two together you could make a vest size.

Do you want some.

Steve's picture

mounted signs

WM I have 12 mounted signs to put on the lamp posts. If we need any more mounting please let me know and I will obtain some backing.

Web Monkey's picture

Nice one Steve

I'll get the camera out and take some snaps before our little urchins who wonder the streets decide it's fun to pull them down.

I also noticed another tree had recently been broken on the path leading up to the high street.

Snow and Louts

Seems to me that snow brings the worst out in some kids, on Sunday whilst driving down Spitfire Way a group of kids standing in the garden of No,47 decided to snowball my car as I drove past. When I stopped they all did a runner into the back garden unfortunately no one was in at the house so I could not go on a rant at the parents. I do not mind being snowballed when the snow has just fallen but a few days later when it consists of ice and grit it is no laughing matter. Angry

Snow and louts

Again this site never ceases to amaze me, once again people issuing house numbers and street names without any consideration for others ..... Yes I live at number 47 Spitfire Way as mentioned and yes I do have two boys who live here, however I don't and won't take responsibility for anybody elses children who live/do not live on either estate who happen to be playing with my children on Sunday. I can tell my children not to do things but unfortunately other peoples children are not my responsibility, but if the said person who has posted this note would like the contact details for all children who were here playing on Sunday I will be happy to supply these to you. You can then contact their parents to complain about their behavour, I believe my husband was in all day on Sunday apart from the occassional walk with the dogs, therefore if you had knocked on the door you could have spoken to him directly and you wouldn't have had to post this! It seems that people are all to ready to hit a few keys on their pc instead of confronting the issue, it's a pity they are not brave enough for a face to face conversation ................

bj-dj's picture

No offence intended

Firstly may I apologies to anyone who may have been offended by the post I made regarding having my car snow balled by the group of kids in Spitfire Way. This post was just intended to act as a warning to any other drivers using Spitfire Way on this particular occasion. The reason I made this post was simple at the time of the snowballing I had got my driver’s side window down and I could quite easily been struck in the face. Having already lost the sight in one eye due to an act of childish horseplay some years ago I value the sight in my remaining eye. This was the reason for my rant there was no malice or bad feeling intended.

Snow Balling

Having endured this for a couple of evenings myself. I will set up a camera to get some evidence of the little louts if it happens again tonight.

Have these kids not thought about the cost of a new window!!!!!

Oww. I'd just got my hat,

Oww. I'd just got my hat, scarf and gloves on.

What am going to do now.

popeye's picture

Age

I know these lads and lasses could find better things to do with their time but, i for one used to enjoy throwing the odd snowball at some old peoples houses just to get a reaction................. Smile

We forget sometimes we used to do daft things that annoyed the older generation, although i am sure we never tried to damage their property and we were always respectful, maybe that is the difference..

IF your going to throw snowballs, you've got to do it right

Expert advice from the worlds 3rd best snowball thrower. Honestly, this guy takes him self sooooooo seriously. Watch for the bit where he says, nearly hit that tree. He was no where near.

If the video doesn't work, follow this link
Perfect snowball

And finally don't throw snowballs near this guy.

Driving on Ice - caution some swearing on this video - so if your easily offended DON'T PRESS PLAY.

5 mins wasted

Matt you have just made me waste 5 minutes of my life.

Web Monkey's picture

Which vid? The snow ball one or the car on ice?

I'm glad I could waste 5 mins of your time watching a video thats not in German Wink

That American guy, I'd love to get a solid ice ball straight from the fridge and chuck it at him. I'll show him how a snowballs made and thrown. It's not just because he's a yank, it's because he so up his own.....

As for the couple in the car on ice video. There has to be a better way of exiting a moving car. They must have watched a training video by Brian Harvey.

Steve's picture

Stolen ????

Someone has nicked all the snowmen and nobody has noticed

No Ransom note...

I am getting worried, it's been 24 hours yet and no ransom demands........
