New proposals to cut down alcohol related crime
The Government have introduced tough new proposals to cut down alcohol related crime. They are -
- banning irresponsible promotions, such as 'all you can drink for £10' or 'women drink free' deals, that encourage people to drink quickly or irresponsibly
- banning 'dentist's chairs' where drink is poured directly into the mouths of customers, making it impossible for them to control the amount they are drinking
- ensuring free tap water is available for customers, allowing people to space out their drinks
- ensuring all those who sell alcohol have an age-verification policy in place, requiring them to check the ID of anyone who looks under-18
- ensuring small measures of beers, wine and spirits are made available to customers
Do you think these go far enough. Are there other checks that you'd put in place.

Old Hat Nanny State
The problrm with drink or binge drinking is not a new one it has gone on for years. The issue now is that modern media pushes it into peoples living rooms.
See issues re Mothers Ruin, Gin Houses that were closed in London in the 1800,s . Prohibition in America did not work. People brewed their own moonshine and racketeers made lots of money running bootleg operations. The licencing laws came into effect during the First world war to prevent munitions workers getting drunk before their shifts thus 10:30 closing on Sunday nights 12 till 2 sunday dinner and strict 7 till 11 midweek .
If proper punishments were given to people who break the law under the influence then this may have an impact.
I would suggest sin bin cells where drunk and disorderly s get an instant week in jail and have to pay for the food and accomodation whilst in there. If you are on benifits they should be stopped to pay for your weeks stay. This would have an instant impact I do think.
Raising tax on alcohol would penalise the sensible social drinkers like Myself, Sharky and Popeye. That would not do
