Not In My Neighbourhood Events (3rd Nov - Asda, 5th Nov Sainsburys)
In recent weeks there has been a marked increased in the theft of number plates off vehicles. This is a national problem which is mirrored locally. Number plates are stolen for several reasons, e.g. to commit robbery; to obtain petrol without payment; to avoid congestion charges.
There are two events next week where the Automobile Assocation will, at no cost, be fitting security screws to number plates.
The events run from 10am to 3pm and are at:-
Tuesday, 3rd November, at ASDA, Tunstall
Thursday, 5th November at Sainsburys, Stoke.
Please advise your members. The theft of number plates can be irksome. Details of stolen number plates are placed on the Police National Computer. This can result in the driver of a vehicle on replacement plates being stopped unneccessarily. Should the stolen plates be used for any illegal purpose, then the original owner may again be unneccesarily involved.

Good idea.
This has happened where I work, people come onto the car park and steal the number plates - it's normally done about 8am, then the crimes are commited before the person who's plates have been taken has noticed. (usually within an hour or so)
This is a great event by the AA, to fit security screws , but, I have to say, do any group that put on roadshows and events actually think about the timing of them? Not just the AA, but the council's roadshows on the new bin system etc, all are during the day. I know we have a large amount of people unemployed in the area, but we also have a large amount of people employed in the area as well, and these daytime, mid-week roadshows and events are totally biased against the working population being able to participate. Sorry, rant over (and yes, I did complain to the council about the timing of their events)
