EDL

Being a bit blonde I thought that the EDL rally was some kind of sporting event a bit like the cycling races that have been successfully held in the Potteries in previous years.

So having looked on tinternet for EDL rally and seen footage/news reports of previous rallies by the English Defence League (EDL) in Nottingham, Birmingham etc I don't think I'll be shopping in Hanley that day!

I don't blame you

Hiya Zoe

I don't blame you. The UAF are vowing to try and stop the EDF's rally. With Islam4UK mini rally the other week in cobridge and now this, the people of Stoke-on-Trent are being played by both ends of the spectrum.

Shouldn't be happening

Has this City sunk so low as to allow these thugs to march through our streets. Everyone talks about Stokies like we are all a bunch on neo-nazis, but like always it's just the minority.

I'm saddend to see it happen and to the trouble it will then cause both during the march and long after they have left.

Democratic country

Although I am a advocate of freedom of speech, do these rallies actually acheive any good, whichever cause they represent.
As one comment says "will not be using Hanley" has already stopped a resident from going about their normal life, which is a breach of human rights, in my opinion.
Every week there seems to be some cause outside the potteries shopping centre, which is fair enough, until they approach you, which then invades my space.
If any of these rallies disrupt anyones day to day lives, then how are they helping the residents of Stoke on Trent. If there is an extra police presence, then all rally goers should pay for this, instead it will come out of our council tax.
Rant over.

Live coverage of the EDL rally - some arrests already.

Head over to Pits n Pots for live updates and images of the edl rally.

Things had been peacful until recently, although some arrests have just been reported. Wardles buses sporting Stoke City have been shipping bus load after bus load of EDL supporters.

A number of counter marches are also occuring across the city.

The main march is expected to take place between 14:00 and 16:00, a time when a lot of people working in town leave for home.

One person tweeting said that the Sunday papers are going to have a field day at Stoke expense, inflicting yet more damage on our down troddern city.

Bunch of prats

I knew this would this would happen, not only has it cost the city, and council tax money, to hold the rally, police officers were injured, and a heavily police presence was seen across the city. I tried to contact the prats in charge, guess what, I got no response, could not even leave a comment. I hope those organising the rally will come forward, and then pay for the debarcle which affected our city yesterday. I did notice some in covered heads, cannot even stand up and be counted. All funds should be seized to pay for the day.
