Speed Checks 23rd May 2009

Dear all.
Below is an email I have had from the Traffic Unit that completed checks on Saturday evening. Makes interesting reading as they were only there for an hour!
This can only help our fight to get safety measures on the road, and we are doing all we can to combat this problem.

The Road Policing Team conducted speed safety checks on Reginald Mitchell Way, Tunstall between 1700hrs and 1800hrs on Saturday the 23rd May 2009, using a laser speed device.
The results for the operation are as follows:-

8 Endorsable fixed penalty tickets (3 points and £60 fine) were issued for speeding offences.
10 motorists were spoken to and given advice with regard to their speed and manner of driving.
1 motorist was reported for summons for speeding and no insurance.
1 Vehicle was seized under sec165a of the road traffic act 1988.

The majority of drivers were local to the area and were aware of the speed restrictions in place. They were fully supportive of the operation.

Whilst conducting the operation we were approached by a number of local residents who praised the work due to concerns over the speed of traffic.

We will continue to conduct checks on this road, and when I get more news, I will let you know.
