Reginald Mitchell Way race way

For anyone who has gotten a little bit fed up with the bikes today needs to put a call through to the police none emergency number list above.

Strangely the operator I spoke to classed it as anti social behaviour rather than a dangerous crime, but they will alter local officers to be on the look out.

In fact not long ago I heard police sirens racing down reg Mitch way.

When will this mayhem ever

When will this mayhem ever stop on this road?

All the money spent on adjusting the roundabout was a total waste.

We need a couple of speed cameras on this road to stop sppeding vehicles. A new campaign should be started.

Speeding Bikes

Having lived on the estate since the beginning I don't think you will ever stop the bikes speeding down RMW.

The bikes down RMW do sound slightly noiser in the Summer, we used to put it down to the bike shop being located in Goldenhill.

We don't find the noise any worse than when the motorbike races take place across the way (sorry don't know the location but you can see the mud track from the top of Mustang Close.)

I don’t think the noise from bikes speeding up and down RMW is any worse than the noise coming from all the cars that have had boy racer exhausts fitted to them. Surely the main concern should be speed, as the introduction of the new roundabout layout has done nothing to reduce speed it has only improved visibility. Speed camera’s are the only answer, I think a lot of people think that when the fire station has been completed there may be changes to the layout of RMW which may slow the traffic down but I am not so sure myself.

Here here!!
I agree with bj-dj61. Over the last few years, how many accidents have occurred near to or on the roundabout? The last one only being couple of months ago involving a car ending up in the hedge just past the roundabout.
These have all been caused by excessive speed either approaching the island or exiting the island. It is the norm now to see most vehicles at all times of the day speeding down RMW. It seems that a lot of drivers rather than seeing the roundabout as a safety device for the access to roads off RMW, and seems as a slight inconvenience and a challenge to see if they can get around it at speed of 40 MPH + without using their brakes.
Not only the traffic going down RMW but if you are leaving the estate and travelling up the hill, you usually find when you are only turning right around the roundabout, usually a vehicle viewed in your mirrors is right up your rear or trying to creep up the side of you. The principle of giving way has been totally lost. Then they have to accelerate at break neck speeds to over take you, and glare at you whilst doing so through there passenger window.
The morning rush hour is the worst in getting out of the estate. Its like you have to take your life in your hands even if you want to turn right. Turning left to go up the hill is like participating in 'Wacky Racers'
They say that camera's can only be fitted if there is a fatality? Well that criteria sucks. Surely the word 'Safety' camera describes exactly what these cameras are for, and it is our safety that is in question. its all very good when the mobile camera van is present, yes it all calms down, but even then people are still getting caught even with a stupid portable sign placed at the top of the hill and a big white van sitting at the side of the road. Well if you can not see that and still get caught, then these people are either totally stupid, don’t give a crap about the law, or going to fast to even see the dam warnings.
When they have the little speed detection sign placed on the lamppost occasionally, is there no way of gathering statistics on how many times this is activated? When ever i see it, its always showing red, triggered by other mindless speeders. You would think in this day and age of expensive petrol, that people would want to slow down to conserve fuel.
The cost of upgrading the A500 recently and the over use of SPEC's cameras. It wasn’t even the case that any roadworks were taking place during the day? Its so heavy handed in one respect and on the other hand ridiculous. All that is required is a camera placed at the 30 MPH sign by the roundabout and another at the entrance of the roundabout going uphill. The roundabout works that took place have done nothing to slow traffic down; the viability up RMW is still bad if not worse now the junction was pulled back and the vegetation overgrowth. The solution which is permanent and more cost effective is so simple with the use of at least one safety camera, any fool can see that. Around the county and town are areas with excessive amounts of cameras such as the Stone Road A34 and Dividy Road and Potteries Way. Why can not one of these be relocated. Surely the cost of such an operation would be recouped in a short time by tickets being issued and thus saving the need for the deployment of safety camera vans and numerous police officers on days when they perhaps would have better things to do.
It is only a matter of time that a nasty accident will occur, and it is only for the grace of God and the vigilance of the estate residents using this 'Ring of Hell' that no one has been killed or seriously injured in the past?
The debate needs to be re-ignited on this matter as we have given the amended road layout enough time to prove itself, without any success.
I for one believe it is time for the simple solution of a safety camera to be implemented on this 'Road to Hell' before its too late for some poor soul to sacrifice their selves to this Devil.
Comments and any other ideas please?

Ian, Bryn, do me a favour -

Ian, Bryn, do me a favour - just do me a quick favour and let me know if you could make a forth coming date for a residents association, and also that you want to be on the team.

If you feel passionate about something then we need that sort of passion on the RA team

Matt . A very nice reply , I would have not been so kind. Oh just to be different I do think the new layout has slowed the speed of the vast majority of vehicles entering the roundabout.
But if people do not get involved in helping to resolve community matters but are content to sit at home and do nothing I do feel they sould put up or shut up.

Even still, just say you'd like to be involved, and then put him in his place, simples.

Steve sorry but I agree and

Steve sorry but I agree and disagree with you on this one; the new layout has only made a difference at peak times (7am to 9am and 4pm to 6pm) when traffic volumes are high. Any other times when there is not so much traffic around a majority of cars do race over the roundabout as we found out not so long ago when a vehicle ended up in someone’s hedge. I would like to see the reintroduction of the speed monitor on RMW so that we could monitor the average speed of vehicles using this stretch of RMW and see if further speed reduction measures need to be put in place.

Hi Matt, I am not too

Hi Matt,

I am not too bothered about Steve’s comment. My post was my opinion which also Steve is entitled to his opinion as well; it just came across a bit aggressive, if not intentional.

Yes I would like to come to the next meeting and be more involved.

Can you please let me know the date and time, Thursday evenings are the only times I can not attend as I am dealing with MI5 matters on those nights....LOL

Look forward to meeting you all. Smile
