Stoke Family Information Service
Stoke Family Information Service
We are a pioneering service which provides impartial advice to families on a wide range of issues. The Family Information Service (FIS) is run by Stoke-on-Trent City Council. We offer help to families or carers looking after children and young people up to 19 years old (25 for young people with disabilities).
The aim of the FIS is to offer free, impartial advice and assistance: - such as maternity rights, childcare, financial incentives to help with the cost of childcare, behavioural issues, and problems some teenagers can face. If we can not fully help we will put you in touch with a tailored range of organisations that can.
FIS Manager Jane Fallows explained: "We’re very keen to get more people to use our service. We have access to more than 800 sources of local information (90,000 nationally) that can help people with a diverse range of questions and problems. We operate from a central hub where we can put people in touch with the appropriate organisation. Each call is unique, every person is treated as an individual, and nothing is generic, information is tailored to individual need. We’re available to anyone who looks after children; and that could be grandparents, carers, brothers and sisters, uncles and aunts - in fact anyone who has responsibility for a young person in their home."
Anyone who wants to contact the Family Information Service can telephone free - 0800 0151120, 08:45 to 5:00pm Monday to Thursday and 08:45 to 4:30 on Fridays or email your questions to fis@stoke.gov.uk.
