The travellers moved onto

The travellers moved onto land off Reginald Mitchell Way, in Tunstall, next to a new office building being advertised to let. At one point there were around eight caravans and several vans parked up on the site.

Residents on the Bankeyfields estate, are the people living closest to where the travellers have set up camp.

They said they haven't experienced any problems with people on the site but were pleased to know the council is taking action.

Computer engineer Gordon Owen, aged 42 said: "I am pleased they are being moved on but I haven't noticed any problems on the estate since they arrived and traffic hasn't increased. "They have got to stay somewhere but I just wish they would be a bit cleaner and tidy up after themselves. It doesn't look very good for people trying to bring business to the area."

One of his neighbours, 49

-year-old Steve Barrow, a production manager, said: "I haven't seen any trouble down there but I have noticed they are making a bit of a mess.

"I haven't seen them out and about but there is quite a bit of litter around where they have settled.

"I would think most people will be pleased to see them go."

Travellers also visited an area near to the site this time last year.

I would like to know who

I would like to know who foots the bill for the cleanup when they have left.
I called the council this week to ask if they would take 1 small bag of waste that would not fit in my wheelie bin - needless to say, I was told NO!
So, as a council tax payer, why are these people not prosecuted for tipping and charged for the cleanup operation that has to take place after they have left a trail of destruction?

They have moved on now to the top of RMW and now doing the same thing there. Us tax payers are being taken for fools - why are they above the law?!
Can someone tell me?

I asked this very same

I asked this very same question of clean up fees to Jon Fletcher at the R/As meeting.
He assured me that the owners of the land paid.
They have now set up camp just beyond the roundabout at the top of RMW.
I actually witnessed one person squatting down and going the toilet in the field.
When I questioned the health issue I was informed it was an Enviroment isue.
Basicaly "pass the buck".
They will move on and what was once a walkway will become an halth hazard with nobody taking responsibility or it.
The "travellers" (as these are not proper gypsies) are a law unto themselves with councilsin fear of them in case they "offend" them.
They should be made to clean the site up, or have their vans confiscated untill they do, and then moved on.

As long as the law's where

As long as the law's where travellers are concerned are so lax, them we are going to see the same thing over and over. But the worst thing is, none of these rules make sense. They talk about their civil liberties, but what about every one else's civil liberties.

I hear there is a load of land near kiev that they can have, the grass glows at night, but theres plenty of space, and no one to meither or cause a fuss.

It's disgusting. The law is

It's disgusting. The law is an ass and travellers should be held accountable.
Maybe if people took things into their own hands and let their tyres down then
They would think twice.. Anyone busy tonight?

terry turbo's picture

Nuprint.co.uk if you do that

Nuprint.co.uk if you do that it will be "incitement to racial hatred".
The law works for the offender, not the offended.
Its time the balance was put right.
I was shown a poster that boasted of someone fined for dropping a ciggerette end, while these "people" leave lorryloads of rubbish behind with impunity.
UNBELIEVEABLE?

Web Monkey's picture

Oh yeah, that poster, big

Oh yeah, that poster, big heavy fines but with no one to catch people in the act, it's a waste of time, paper and printer ink.

So why not put these environmental officers on watch on a illegal camp, then get some money out of them in fines. If they can't pay it, take it out of their dole/wages.

not saying to do this - but

not saying to do this - but many years back there was an invasion of gypies and caravans on the Grange fields park in Burslem near Cobridge,
they stayed only afew hours after alot of arugments with the local residents ,then they studdenly moved very hastily before night fall-
it was said that the rougest family on the Grange estate had told the gypies that if they didnt move that the caravans and cars would be set on fire.
dont know how ture this is, but there hasnt been any caravans parking on the Grange since.

Why should law abiding people

Why should law abiding people have to resort to these tactics?
It is because our council, and parliament ar too busy appeaseing these itinerants, that do not put a penny in the pot, but expect to take out handfulls of our cash.
It is about time they grew a backbone and sent them back to where they came from, and stopped subsidising them with "our" cash, that should be used to look after our senior residents.
I get so angry when I have to smell and see the filth these people leave behind them, knowing somewhere down the line I will be paying for the cleanup.

You should be on the council.

You should be on the council. There are too many muppets in charge. It needs a lot more of the "people" to have a real say on issues like this.

Thank you Nuprint, but I'm

Thank you Nuprint, but I'm afraid my views would be to upsetting for their delicate little ears.
My actions would not go down to well with parins niether
The "Travellers" have got away with it for far too long and now think they are running the show, and our councillors are not brave enough to stand up and be counted.

Nuprint.co.uk's picture

You show me one brave

You show me one brave councillor!

No such thing I'm afraid.

Totaly agree Nuprint, we are

Totaly agree Nuprint, we are expected to put up with this hypocritical stance by "our" council for the sake of political correctness, and pay for it as well.
Drop a toffee paper get fined, dump hardcore, asbestos, and all manner of things, drive away and forget about it. and its ok.
I'm sorry I've just come back from looking at this site and was dissgusted by the appearance of the site, and they have only been there a short while.
When will our rights be observed instead of taking second place to those that don't contribute a penny to the pot only take, take, take.
We have laws to sort this out but we have not got the politicians with the bottle to force them through for fear of being branded racist.
