Town divided over war memorial plan

RESIDENTS are calling for the building of a town's war memorial to be delayed because of problems with its location.

Plans for a curving wall memorial on the site of the existing pavilion in Tunstall Memorial Gardens had already won planning approval. But alternative plans have been lodged after fund-raisers were told it could cost up to £134,000 to build the memorial in that location.

Now members of Tunstall Memorial Plaque Fund, who have raised £9,000 towards the project, want to build the wall near the gardens' main gates instead.

The wall will feature the names of hundreds of the town's citizens who have died in combat.

But some residents are calling for the scheme to be delayed until everyone is happy with its location.......
