Turkish Delight, in Goldenhill attacks
POLICE are investigating after a takeaway had its windows smashed twice within a week, causing £5,000 of damage.
Mehmet Celik says he has twice had to pay for the windows of his takeaway Turkish Delight, in Goldenhill, Stoke-on-Trent, below, to be replaced and has been further hit by a loss of trade and having to throw food away.
He also fears for his own safety after he claims he was threatened with a knife during one of the incidents.
The 36-year-old Turk, above, who also lives in Goldenhill, said: "It was very frightening and it has left me scared."
During the first incident, Mr Celik says he was threatened by a man, who came into the shop demanding free food and £100 a week for security.
He said when he did not give him what he wanted, the man smashed the windows.
Seven days later the windows were put through again.
The High Street takeaway only opened two months ago and Mr Celik's wife says the incidents are having a terrible impact.
Jeanette Celik, aged 50, said: "My husband is absolutely petrified and very upset, because he has done nothing wrong. He has had to go to the GP and take medication because of it.
"I've had to have a personal alarm for safety reasons. We just don't know when this is going to stop. It is awful and we are losing out in every way possible.
"We have lost customers, we have had to pay for two lots of new windows and we have lost food because it was covered in glass."
Mr and Mrs Celik say they spent £1,500 on repairing the windows the first time they were broken on March 3.
They then had to fork out a similar amount after the incident on March 10, when they also had to throw out £700 of food.
Other costs have included an alarm and various repairs.
