Westport lake, wildlife walk
Westport lake had to be one of the most scenic places in the potteries this sunny spring day.
Normally a walk around the lake, is limited just to the paved paths, but not today as the past few days of nice weather meant that the nature trail, to the east of the lake (A500 side), was dry and passable for a buggy, and two little boys on foot.
After checking with a dog walker, who reassured me the path was passable, we set off with a list of things to find. Arming ourself with this list, meant that we wouldn't rush through, and hopefully the boys would show some interest.
We set off looking for and finding a small bird (Robin), a big bird (goose), insect (butterfly - which surprised me that our 5yr old knew a butterfly was an insect) and finally a mammal (squirrel).
Because the walk in the woods had been entertaining and interesting for them, there was none of the usual "my legs are tired", just two happy little lads, and a chatty baby in her push chair.
After completing our lap in about an hour, we took a quick trip to the visitors centre for a quick pee break, and a good wash of their hands, we then set off to Westport lakes fabulous park for a final bit of fun (virtually glass free).
So, if your stuck for something to do tomorrow, why not head off to the Westport lake, the gem of Stoke North.

Have to agree, we went there
Have to agree, we went there yesterday mid afternoon and was surprised how busy it was.
Had to park in the overspill car park which would be a challenge if it had rained recently.
Park for the kids plenty to do even when busy like yesterday.
Wonderful paths around at least 2 lakes suitable for buggies, wheelchairs and bikes, couple of kids learning to ride them as well. Lots of ducks and geese to feed, and there were even 2 sets of baby geese to look at.
The bit my son liked the most was the ice cream van, you can get an ice cream, flake, sauce and sprinkles for what used to be 99p is now a £1!
Didn't try the visitor centre but will definately go again.
Has anyone ever been to Bathpool park, is there much there?
the old ice cream man is no

Matt also a little known fact that water voles are resident in the area on the far side of the lake. They were very prolific untill Fowlea Brook was redug several years ago but the desturbance of that activity did reduce their numbers.

i also dont think the new ice cream man ( aaron i believe hes called) has ever washed his hands in his life
I heard to day that there was
I heard to day that there was a argument that ended up in fisticufs between two icecream men at Westport Lake. apparently one vanman objected to the other one turning up and trying take over his pitch so he argued with him and it all ended up in a fight and the police were called to the scene. This is second hand information given to me whilst at work but i would love to find out if it is true, any one else out there know about it??. Also if it is true what on earth must visitors or mums and dads with small children be thinking of our lakeside hospitality.
