Staffordshire police
Hi
I have just come off the phone once again to the so called police force in staffordshire, and have just been told we will not do anything about the speeding motorbikes etc on reginald mitchell way for safety reasons I could not stop laughing so if you want to keep a clean licence in staffordshire buy a motorbike.
When I was told they would not chase after motorbikes for speeding etc due to safety reasons I asked what about the safety of other road users and pedestrians and the phone line went very quiet with no comment on that.
So if I could ask for everyones help please contact or email joan walley and also email staffordshire police with a complaint about this and hopefully one day we might manage to get this problem resolved.
copy of the email I have just sent to staffordshire police :
I would just like to ask why in staffordshire the police turn a blind eye to speeding motorbikes on the counties roads, and I have been told this from your own officers that it is because of safety reasons I could not stop laughing when told this, as what about other road users and pedestrians. I live very close to reginald mitchell way in tunstall and everyday when it is nice weather they line up to go up and down as often as they can and I have even witnessed police cars going past them and taking no action. I would love to see the forces policy on this matter and I will also be taking this up with my local MP once again and will also be contacting the sentinal newspaper to let them know of the forces response to speeding motorbikes.

Comments
Looks like it's going to be a nice week as well
All the police have to do is watch the weather forcast and then turn up with cameras. Can't they video the time trials and then take them to court?
So what the police are saying is, if your on a bike and your speeding it's ok.
Also if your on a bike and your speeding, and you evade capture that also ok.
Is anything illegal whilst on a motorbike?
I'm sure it's safe to say you have the backiing of the local community.
Hi Webmonkey
Hi Webmonkey
Thanks for the reply, just a quick update I have just been contacted by staffordshire police and I have got a meeting with them tomorrow to discuss the problem once again and get some more info from them once again they are saying they want to work with me to resolve the problem ??.
I told them I was already doing this with the previous sergeant before but since there has been a change of sergeant it seemed to be put on the back burner, so they seem to want to start talking again to try and resolve the problem, so will keep everyone informed via the site on how things are going.
Tony
Just to let everyone know I
Just to let everyone know I was meant to have a telephone meeting at 1pm today with the police, and never received this call now I understand they can be busy at times, but surely they can atleast get someone to call and say sorry we are going to be late having the discussion.
But then again I did expect this to happen so I suppose another few calls later today will be made again, as ins't it a lovely evening.
motor bikes
Today as I came uphill to the focus roundabout I checked my rearview mirror. Just comming on to RMW at the bottom roundabout was a bike with headlight on full beam. (Very safe we can see you).I slowed as a van came around the roundabout to go up towards Focus. I continued without actually stopping indicating to turn right into the estate. The bike passed me on the roundabout and continued uphill. Now I do not know the actual distance from the bottom roundabout to the focus roundabout but I guess its about 350 meters. Now to travel that distance in a few seconds must be well over the 40MPH limit. Some one will be killed or seriously injured on that road soon and odds on a bkie will be involved
Hi
Hi
Just to let you all know, have just got home from a very positive meeting at tunstall police station with Sgt Flowers.
He is going to be speaking with other officers asap who have spoken to me before that know about the issues of reginald mitchell way, and to start looking more into the problems we all encounter on this race track and try and solve the issues.
Also he is going to look at attending the NHW meetings & possibly also looking on the website as I did leave him with the website address, subject of course to shift pattern and also work load.
So all in all I felt we had a very good meeting and was very greatful for his time in listening to us on this matter.
One question he did ask is how many of the residents feel there is a problem with speed and bad driving on this road, so please everyone log on here or contact the NHW co-ordinators about your feelings on RMW and hopefully with the police forces help we might finally get somewhere on this problem.
Thanks
Police meeting
If the NHW meeting is in June, what are the police going to do in the meantime, what did the police want the community to do in the meantime, apart from answering polls, questions on the website, if they are not online.
Nimby
Can every one whos not done so vote on these polls please
Thanks for the update Tony. We'll try and see if we can guage opinion on the website too. If you email me with a list of questions I can knock out a interactive survey on the site - a bit like the one in the top menu.
Polls
I put these polls on the site last week, so can every one vote, and comment in needs be, we get a fairer idea of what every one thinks. We also need fold to spread the word about the site, so tell a friend.

Hi Nimby
Hi Nimby
Thanks for the post in the meantime between now and the next meeting if they do attend, the senior officers are looking into the problem with other local officers that I have spoken to in the past about the issue, and due to not wanting everyone to know what there plans are for trying to tackle this problem they cannot disclose actual operational procedures before taking any action.
Hopefully soon all I will say is that we might hopefully start to see alot more police speed checks etc.
I am surprised
With all your slagging off of the police, I am surprised they meet you at all.
Hi
Hi
What makes you say I am slagging them off, all I am trying to do is get some action over this very dangerous road outside our estate, since moving here nearly 3 years ago there has been very little action over this problem and unless people make a stand over it, nothing will be done.
And I even had a certain NHW co-ordinator tell me that I don't live as close to the road as you do so I am not as bothered about it as you might be. So if I do not try and get the problem sorted who will.
Sorry if anyone is not happy with me tackling this problem if anyone wants me to stop please say and I will not post anymore messages on here and will deal with this matter myself to try and solve this issue.
What came out of your
What came out of your meeting, and how will it affect the community
keep up the good work Tony
Tony your efforts are appreciated. I have just had to stop on the roundabout as a volvo estate has just come down RMW at such a speed that he would not have been able to give way to me. On the subject of the Police policy of not pursuing bikes they should take note of North Yorkshire police who now have unmarked bikes on patrol. They activly target speeding bikes. As seen on Traffic Cops BBC 1 Thursday night.

So what came from your meeting that will help the community
Let me ask the question
Let me ask the question would the community prefer I never even tried to sort this problem out, as I don't see anyone else having meetings with the police.
What came from the meeting is the police are looking into see what action they can take on the matter and the way I look at it is if no one asks then nothing will be done and the police will think everything is ok out there.
Plus you should know mark things take time and I never seen anyone from the NHW taking any interest in the pedestrian crossing or the speeding when I 1st moved here.
Its a pity some people are of the opinion NIMBY ( not in my back yard )
Would you prefer I never pursued this matter and just give into the dangerous problem of RMW
??
??
Please read my post correctly and we will have to wait and see how things turn out. Or why don't you come along to any further meetings and ask the questions also.
Just look how long it took me to get the pedestrian crossing sorted with lots of meetings and phone calls nearly 18 months in the end, so I am afraid to say it probably will not be a quick fix to the problem of RMW but hopefully with police help we might start to see an improvement.
All I ask is for the help of other residents to also contact the police when they see problems on RMW and if more people complain then hopefully things might happen sooner.
Safety First
I'm lucky in the fact that I work from home, and I very rarely have to venture out onto Reg Mitch in the rush hour, or any other time.
However, my wife does with the kids and on many occasion she tells me of a terrifying story of near misses or plain stupidity. In fact they should count them selves lucky. My only worry is, how long will that luck hold until something really tragic happens.
ANYTHING that can make that roundabout and that road safer must be played out, to it's conclusion. Theres no harm in talking.
One of the main purposes of the internet in the 21st century is about communities banding together, through technology to make a point, to educate, and to make a difference. One persons voice can be added to, to carry weight, to add to the argument, to balance the argument.
Lets not lose sight guys, that it's the road, and peoples lives we are concerned about.
Even though it's a new site, with only about 18 users, 80% have of users voting on the speed camera poll think theres a problem.
RMW speeding
I have been in touch with Joan Walley, who asked the question, what would be the main aim of the community, and NHW this year, although she anticipated my reply, I have said that the road would be on top of the agenda, Joan also said she would help in anyway she could, and would support us in our cause.
I as a resident(no longer a coordinator) feel that comments, such as police ignorance, police will do nothing, and so called staffordshire police, are unhelpful comments.
The reason for the road to be top of the agenda, is as a result of the topics and comments from the old forum, and this new website, not my own agenda.
Hi Steve
Hi Steve
Thanks for the support, I also seen that program and when I met with the police I asked them why some forces have different policies regarding speeding vehicles and I was told it just depends on the local area.
I will still keep going on with my meetings and asking questions but I feel like giving up sometimes, due to lack of support at times.
I would just like to ask sharky " what way would you describe the police force after being told time and time again we will not chase speeding motorbikes due to safety reasons and when you ask them about other road users and pedestrians safety you get no answer". And we all know on the estate and local area that RMW has been a problem now for many years and is not getting better.
If I ever cause offence to anyone it is not meant, but I just want action as it has gone on long enough these problems and I feel unless you get straight to the point with the city council and the police force, things will not get better.
My only aim
I am just a resident now, I have only wanted for everyone to get on with one another, I have acheived this with my neighbours, just hope everyone else have
Hi
Hi
That is also my only aim is for everyone to get on, as all I want is for this estate to have or try to have a safe enviroment for everyone to live in, and even though I left the NHW a long time ago now, I still kept up my aims of trying to make RMW and the roundabout out of the estate safer for all, and will not let anything or anyone get in my way of trying to do this.
And as I said I mean no offence to anyone and just want the best. And with most people that know me one I get my teeth into something I do not stop until I get results.
Wasted opportunity, if only the crossing were lower down....
I wish the council had consulted the residents when the crossing where put in place. It's fine charging us higher tax than most in the area 'cause we've got bigger houses, but it's not fine to ask us whats best for us. How on earth did they come to that conclusion? By throwing down a couple of speed monitoring strips in the road?
A lot of people I spoke to were expecting the crossing to be a lot lower down Reginald Mitchell, almost on the roundabout leading onto our estate. I can't help thinking that if it were better placed, then a lot of the issues people are concerned about (the roundabout mostly) would have had a happier ending.
I'm sure we could have sorted out the odd community press the button and cross in the rush hour event, or on weekends, as a protest to the speeders.
And when the sun hits the road, someone could get trigger happy witht he green man button, trying to catch them out with red lights.
As it is , they're plonked on a blind corner, doing very little to reduce traffic speed.
Hi Webmonkey
Hi Webmonkey
The council were given a copy of the survey we carried out with all residents, and I cannot remember the exact figures at the moment but if I remember rightly most residents wanted 2 crossings one at the top and one at the bottom, but the responce from the council was there is no way you are having 2 crossings as the money is not there and the money was very nearly not there for the one crossing, until I asked the head of the department I understand the money has gone but as a good will gesture to all the residents that have to try and cross the road with kids come out and show them how to cross RMW without risking your life. He went away to think about it and within 12 hours the funding had somehow reappeared "very strange" LOL.
And the reason the crossing was put at the top of RMW also is that the council wanted it to fit in with their proposed cycleway as they wanted to hide the fact in my opinion that it was put in due to residents creating alot of noise over it not being there in the 1st place when the road was built, and I was told that if it does not go there then no crossing will be provided anywhere else on the road. Plus they also said they used an independant company to help with the best location for the crossing and also the emergency services were also consulted on the location of it and everyone approved the location.
All in all the best way to look at it is no matter what location it is in the children and adults do at least have a location where they can now cross the road relatively safely, as no road is 100% safe to cross, and for how many years were people crossing the road with no crossing facility.
Road Survey
I've put together a road survey, which when we get enough responses can be used to document and give to various parties.

I bet the bikes will be out today
I bet the bikers are reading their engines for later today, if the suns still shining.
You know what it's like on RegMitch, get that tar a little bit warmed up and it under starters orders.
luckily I've still got some ear plugs from a day out at silverstone.
Web Monkey
Looks like I was wrong, didn't hear any bike races at all
You can't always hear them, but it looks like the bikes stayed away from Reg Mitch yesterday. Where the police out or was it because it wasn't a weekend?
Web Monkey
There was loads of
There was loads of motorbikes yesterday actually, just when I was putting the kids to bed. But I do live virtually on top of the road.
I almost pray for rain of an evening sometimes .....................
Sorry I spoke to soon
The nice noise from the park must have cancelled out the bikers, but I heard them tonight.
I bet the kids found it diiffcult to sleep.

More volunteers aim to
More volunteers aim to target speeders
Just come across this article on this is staffordshire about volunteers helping to target speeding motorists.
We spoke about this earlier in the year, as there had been a few near misses on the Road about of Death. Nothing really came of it at the time, but I think it would be a good way for us all to get behind the rebooting of the NHW scheme and
get some of the speeding issues on our roads sorted.
