Creating a user

Start by clicking Register a new user.

Fill in the form, creating yourself a username and enter your email address. Complete the rest form, enter the security question and press the "create a new account".

You will now be sent an email with a password in it. Once you log in, you will be able to change your password. Users who have forgotten their password can have their user details to their email address.

Edit your user profile

Start by accessing your user profile and click edit.

On this page you can alter your password, upload your user image.

To change your contact information, you simply click the conact tab next to the edit tab.

Avatar: User picture - how and why?

You might have seen the Web Monkey, Sharky, Garden Surgery fellas user picture and wondered can I do that?

You may also have asked yourself why would I want to and where would I get an image from? The answer to that is it makes your posts stand out, and to give your user profile a bit of character.

The images you upload can be real, cartoony, just not offensive. Now in some cases it might be better going with a cartoon one as the real deal isn't an attractive option (Sharky).

Avatars on this site can be 128px by 128px. Although if you have a smaller image to upload then so be it.

Step 1
Login and click my account in the side menu.

Step 2
Click the edit tab

Step 3
Scroll down until you see the Field group with the words picture and a browse button.

Step 4
Click browse and find your image on your computer. If theres an image on the internet that you like, firefox users can right click and press download image. Save it to your hard drive.

Step 5
Once you've located your image, click ok, then scroll to the bottom of the edit my account page and press the submit buttom.

You'll now have a nice image in your profile.

Buddy List

Buddy lists allow you build up a connection with friends or people who interest you and you want to follow what they post.

How do I add a user to my buddy list?
On a forum post you'll see something like submitted by USERNAME on ...
Click the user name, and on their user profile click add to my buddy list.

The user in question then has to confirm that they want you as a buddy. Once thats done, the buddy will be added to your list.

Recommend a friend

Logged in users can send a invite to friends email addresses. You can then track to see if your friend has signed up.

What are user points

There more the posts and things you do on the website the more you points you get. It's up to you what importance you put on these.

What the ecky thump is RSS?

RSS is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines.

OK, so what can I do with it?

Using web home pages like Net Vibes, Google Home Pages, Google Reader or even application like your mail browser including Outlook, you can keep tabs on the latest goings on.

I personally use net vibes, which is my default home page, and have Bankey RSS, BBC headlines, The Sentinel news flowing into one page, so you never have to miss out on anything.

Copying urls

Copying url's 101

as for copying url (web addresses, uri's what ever the geeky word is) all you need to do is -

1. in your address bar (the bit with the http://.................. in it ) click it once, until it is highlighted.
2. press CTRL and C on your keyboard or right click on the highlighted text and click copy.
3. Back in the post textarea box, press ctrl and v, or right click in the white space and press paste.
