Plans were unvalied at tonight Tunstall Chamber of Trade for a proposed extention to Alexandra Park. The retail unit which already comprises of DW fitness, the carphone warehouse, Boots and Tunstall Medical Centre.
The final phase will extend from Boots with two big units with two main primary tennants, Iceland and Home Bargins being introduced and a smaller set of 3 units which carrying over to Scotia Road and the Tunstall Shard.
The proposals are just that proposals at the minute, and haven't even been submitted for planning permission but are on display to show Traders and Shoppers what is being planned for the next year.
The orginal plans for phase two were reduced in 2008 with only the Medical Centre and Boots being built. The other units were dropped due to the looming recession and credit crunch.
For many, the move of boots was seen as the beginning of the end of the high street, but soon saw a major budget retailer (Poundland) replace Boots. In fact quite the opposite happened. The new boots store seems to be a pale imitation of the high street store and is rarley packed.
These new plans show Dransfield is committed to completing the project and has not be but off by the Norcross/Morrisison.
What item of note is the High Street store Cool Trader is a subsidry of Ice Land. What isn't yet know is if both stores will be active or will yet another store in the top end of town close?
