Must admit I personally did not think we had that much snow on the estate or stoke as a whole. I have just returned from a mad drive to scotland and back in a day and it is 100 times worse in places. But people are still getting out and about.
P.S. Anyone that cannot get there cars out of the estate whilst we wait on the council to provide more grit, which personally I do not think will ever happen anytime soon, you will possibly find the Focus DIY store across from the estate usually sell bags of grit.

I agree I don't think it's that bad here yet, but it could have been. We've also got the problem of ice on certain stretches. if you go the long way to your house, you'll see that as you drive up John Rhodes Way, the sun doesn't really touch the road as the houses block it, leading to compacted snow to become ice.
Anyway thats not the point, the grit bins should have been stocked up a long time ago, we mentioned it in autumn in one meeting which was noted and then again at the very start of November which was also noted and should have been acted upon. Not having a gritter on the estate is one thing but not to supply us with grit for the existing bin negligible.
Fat lot of good empty grit bins will do us when the snow does come down thick and fast which it will. We've been lucky that we've had it mild here (see the 1/2 foot snowman on my front lawn to prove it).
Also this week, the police are urging people to think twice before requesting emergency services as the weather gets worse (temperatures will be dropping to -1). If you live in stoke on trent with our now reduced gritting service, think 4 times to see if the emergency services are really needed or stand a chance of even making it to the destination.
It makes you wonder if global warming is in this councils best interests as they just can't manage anything in a crisis.
According to the "grtting" department when I called today re getting the grit boxes refilled on the 2 estates, they were supposedly coming out this afternoon to refill them, however given the unhelpful miserable sounding woman who answered the phone, I am not convinced they will have been out.
What made me laugh was the comment "we only have a limited amount of grit." Even after the weather warnings being in force for a while and the problems we encountered earlier in the year you would have thought they would have been better prepared by now!
Hopefully the temporary ice rink on the two estates will soon disappear and it will all be back to normal.
Thanks for the offer Web Monkey but thanks to the help of my cousin and a neighbour I managed to burn the car off the drive and onto the ice rink yesterday afternoon and stocked up!! George Eardley is still a nightmare - the sun doesn't touch it and it is just a sheet of ice from top to bottom - hey ho it might brighten up soon (well at least sooner than the council get their backsides in gear!)

Also, did anyone catch on Pits N Pots the end of last week that Stoke Council have halved the budget for the roads to be gritted, as it's none essential.
