Do you know what AV voting is?
As well as local council elections, this thursday will also see us go to the polls to ask us if we want to change the voting system from first past the post to the Alternative Voting (AV) system.
Please select the option below that best describes your understanding of AV

I'm not sure how to vote
I'm not sure how to vote about AV. To me it is the wrong election system if we are going to change, PR seems better and fairer. My instinct is for fairness in voting, but my fear is that with any other system of voting than the present one we will never get another Labour government with a majority.
When looking around other countries I see the party that the majority have voted for hampered by minor parties who are brought in to make majorities in their parliaments and so have an undemocratic influence, such as regional parties in Germany or the extremist religious parties in Israel. I would like to see real socialist parties at Westminster, but not the BNP or more Nationalists having an undue influence due to the need to get over the 50% mark, and that would happen. Democracy doesn't preclude the idiots and the evil that is its problem!
AV is not a good system. It works well as an internal electoral system, for instance choosing committee chairs or even party leaders. PR would take away a lot of the close relationship we have with an MP, we'd be voting for party not the person, which maybe many of us do anyway.
I find it hard to support anything that Cameron puts his name to and equally hard anything Clegg supports, so I may just spoil my vote! But I do fear that if the No's win then that will be the end for a generation of electoral reform discussion.
I feel an issue of more concern is the cutting of the numbers of MP's and the redrawing of electoral boundaries, this could really change things and I feel for the worse (as it has done in Stoke-on-Trent for the Council).
I don't know if it's the
I don't know if it's the media scare mongering but when you see headlines like at the last elections under AV 136 loosing MP's would have been voted in.
I'm not sure how they work it out, as people only had the one vote, but with stories like that, it's not helping me get my head around AV.
The fact that the person with the most votes, might not win an election just seems a little crazy. It's hard enough getting people to vote as it is, without confusing them further
Although a free lottery ticket with for every voter would be a good way to bribe people back to the polls.
