Should the future of Stoke-on-Trent be based around 1 of the 6 towns or all? Vote Now
In Mike Wolfe's lecture on the future of Stoke-on-Trent, he spoke about focusing all of our future efforts on the city centre and not the other towns. What do you think?

I thought more people would be voting on this as living in an area that may collapse would bring the cost of their houses down.
Shame you cant see the
Shame you cant see the pictures he keeps mentioning.
as a lecture to start debate,
as a lecture to start debate, its been very quiet over all local blogs.
Do people not care about the issue, or do they not care because of the person
The ideas can be dismissed easily because it only that crazy old wolfe talking.
Didn't crazy Wolfe talk about a museum of terraced homes in Middleport many years ago, sadly many have been demolished. But now some are to be saved and preserved http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-stoke-staffordshire-14256685 as they have now been made a conservation area
Come on people start letting our councillor now what we would like, and Councillor come on speak to us let us now your plans, what your working on your ambitions now elected

Ok, let's open up the debate
Ok, let's open up the debate in another way and discover who does what.
Do you shop in: tunstall high street, the Market, the retail park (asda , Argos, matalan)
Also if you don't use any of these facilities why not?
If you've never been just pop into tunstall Market, there are some real gems in there.
I do! in town/market at least
I do! in town/market at least once a week and asda at least two or three times.I also love our charity shops, id hate to see any of it go.
I tend to go to Asda
I tend to go to Asda Wolstanton as parking is easier and they have not got the silly pay now and remember your ticket to get the money back. Yet another silly idea put in by this council, just make it free parking and more people may shop in Tunstall, me being one of them.
I have never been in Tunstall market and so cannot comment.
I know you will say shame on me but I do not have hours to go shopping and to be honest completely hate the whole experience as I can always think of a million things I could be doing instead.
i stay away from the town
i stay away from the town centres parking too expensive cheaper to drive to trafford centre than park up hanley
Based on Google Maps, they
Based on Google Maps, they estimate the journey as costing £9.08 there, making a whopping total of £18.16.
I've got to ask you mate, where the hell do you park in Tunstall or Hanley that costs £18.16, do you have to pay some little kids to look after your wheels?
Well in Tunstall there isn't
Well in Tunstall there isn't that many shops and Hanley there are that many boarded shops its a joke. Trafford centre all shops under 1 roof inside and parking free even a decent food court
to be honest I've been
to be honest I've been impressed with the announcement from the Potteries Shopping Centre, saying they had secured funding to strength it's existing facility.
I just worry that by creating a new cinema complex they'll a) not find much need for it or
it will kill off another part of town.
That to me will be the Odeon. It was never built with giants or comfort in mind, and from a consumers point of view you are out in the sticks a little bitt, if you want to buy anything not with an inflated price tag on it whilst you are there.
So yeah, I'm all for the new plans from the Potteries Shopping Centre.
What about the plans for the "City Sentral". Apart from the obviously stupid name, what's going to happen when two shopping centres are built in an area that can only really cater for one? Yes £350million investment is great (that's if it's not coming out of the council's coffers), but the only thing I can see it doing is killing off one part of town.
yep im backing csc. seems
yep im backing csc. seems winner scrap bus station. if reslis want to continue on their own with sentral let them
council spends money on park n ride or bus station around stoke train ststion

Why does this Council have a
Why does this Council have a fixed agenda of forcing through one city. Surely the six towns offer far more diversity and could therefore generate more interest in the area.
Many people are looking for something different, this council cannot see that we already have the infrastructure in place for the six towns system. Why spend what will be billions of pounds trying to just copy someone else, we need to be proud of what we have and use it, these people will not make decisions and want to be able to say "it's not my fault as it worked there" or "the consultant said it would work".
We have always been great at manufacturing, why not concentrate on what we are good at and forget all this shopping and tourism, so something to attract manufacturers here and forget all these expensive schemes to try and change the six towns into one city.
How many homes could you build with £350,000,000 instead on one huge shopping complex which we do not need?
How many incentives could you have for industry to move here with £350,000,000?
Richard the £350million is
Richard the £350million is not coming from the Council so could not be used for housing
The £350million is apparantly coming from Realis Estate, but with latest online reports show they have £78,658 in the bank with a net value of £-4,428,363
so I'm still doubtfully the hideously named Sentral will go ahead, But the Council will have of course still spent at least £14million on a big bus shelter

I agree that it is doubtful
I agree that it is doubtful that this project will go ahead and that the money is not coming directly from the council. However, in my last comment was trying to get through to people that the last thing we need to spend money on is some fancy shopping centre.
Let's get the people of the six towns of Stoke-on-Trent doing what they do best, manufacturing. Stop all these big ideas, they are all based upon some consultants dreams. When will this council wake up and see that the people just want to work hard for a good living, surely the councils job is to do everything possible to make this possible and not keep dreaming up pie in the sky plans.
I am sure many people would love to see Stoke-on-Trent as one City, one day this maybe possible but we do not have the funding to create this. The plan would always require huge funding and one City would require one town centre, no matter where this was situated, what are we to do with all the other high streets?
You cannot just whip the six towns of the map and recreate them as one City overnight like this council would like to do. Surely you first need to get industry here using whatever means, Free business rates, reduced rental, grants etc....
Mike Wolfe was not even born
Mike Wolfe was not even born and bred in Stoke-on-Trent so his comments should be put in the bin and he should direct his comments to his native Yorkshire
This nonsense makes me so
This nonsense makes me so angry. We live in the only city in the UK that throws money away on trying to sustain 5 shopping high streets. While this continues, the City Centre will remain like Beirut on a bad day. The other towns (which aren't towns anymore, they're districts of ONE city) MUST be allowed to die as major shopping areas, or at least there should be no funding for retail there. We can't afford to support them all and provide 21st century facilities of any kind in the designated city centre.
Too many people saying 'I want' in their own back yard. Turn the other 'towns' into residential areas with low level shopping like other sensible cities have, and concentrate all the funds for retail, public spaces and commerce on Hanley.
If this doesn't happen, this city is done for.
Why not just throw away the
Why not just throw away the City idea. We already have the infrastructure for the 6 towns, use this unique characteristic of Stoke-on-Trent to sell the towns.
Everyone believes the City idea is better. I would question why we need to spend £15,000,000 on a bus station, £350,000,000 on a shopping centre and cinema complex, and I am sure there will be more to come......
If this amount of money were spent on the six towns I am sure we could be proud of what we could achieve...
