What do you think of Tunstall's new street drinking culture - Vote now
In recent months a undesirable group of people have steadily becoming part of the daily make up of the Tunstall Town Centre. Something most of us weren't aware of until someone posted their worries about the number of drunks in Tunstall up onto the site a few weeks ago.
Should drinking alcohol in the street be stopped?
Please tick the responses that you feel are true.

Having spoken to one of the
Having spoken to one of the local Councillors with regard to the law and banning the drinking of alcoholic beverages on the streets, they stated that this can not happen at present.
However, I feel that we all need to lobby government to make it possible to stop any drinking of alcoholic beverages on the streets, many States in the US have this in place, why can't we. Surely it would be easier for the Police to control the drinking in areas such as the Bankeyfields park if there were a blanket ban.
How many people would be behind a blanket ban?

There is no law presently for a blanket ban, but designated areas can become no drinking zones.
I believe the problem in Bankeyfield park and Tunstall park are caused by underage drinkers, to which laws already exist so a ban is not really needed in those area
So yes sadly Tunstall too does need a ban now

The amount of times I have
The amount of times I have seen people drinking alcohol early in the mornings as I go to work is amazing, not just men either.
A few weeks ago I saw a young woman pushing a pushchair drinking a can of beer and it was only about 8am.
So it isn't only in the Tunstall town centre that the problem is occurring.
If the people drinking
If the people drinking alcohol in Tunstall are being rowdy, abusive and violent towards shoppers and shop owners surely this amounts to antisocial behaviour and should be dealt with by the Police. If it is not illegal to drink in the high street I think the Police should encourage these people to congregate around the Police station in Tunstall to do their drinking at least there they can be easily monitored. If things get out of hand the Police response time would be in minutes rather than hours. I think this is just like the illegal parking by the roundabout out of sight out of mind I bet if this was happening outside the Police station on a regular basis some sort of action would be taken to get it stopped.
